Job description

Position Purpose

The Senior Manager, Executive Communications & Engagement, is a member of the Communications Department at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA). This role reports directly to the Senior Director, Executive Office & Communications and is responsible for developing and effectively managing internal and external messaging and communication strategies for the CEO.

The Manager, Executive Communications & Engagement will develop, execute and update executive engagement plans to include employee engagement, thought leadership and external opportunities. They will also partner with subject matter experts to develop narratives and key messages, collaborate with peers to create and execute program milestone communications plans and support other projects as needed.

Location: 100% Remote (Continental United States), Candidates located in the East Coast Time Zone (EST) Preferred

FLSA Status: Full Time, Exempt

Travel: 20%

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

CEO Executive Communications & Strategic Communication Development (50%)

  • Leads execution of compelling, strategic CEO executive communications for internal and external audiences nationally, including speeches, talking points, video development, webcasts, award nominations, etc.
  • Develops strategic, targeted and impactful communication that will inform and inspire.
  • Directs outstanding writing and content development that elevates the BBBSA brand and supports the mission, vision and values of the organization while capturing the executive voice in a genuine, engaging way.
  • Support in drafting talking points or messaging for BBBSA Board members, as needed.
  • Orchestrates communications delivery through a variety of mediums, including print, digital, video and live events, working with appropriate partners internally and external vendors.
  • Partners in the development and execution of a cohesive social media strategy for the CEO that effectively leverages existing social media properties and consistently evaluates new opportunities to engage social media audiences.
  • Support presentation and materials management for CEO-led meetings and communications including but not limited to, presentations, email communications, etc.
  • Creates and/or formats PowerPoint presentations, correspondence and documents for Executive office.
  • Tracks key metrics to measure reach and impact of communications to identify areas of success, opportunity and to inform senior leadership decision-making.
  • Ensures alignment and consistency with organizational strategy and execution.

Collaboration & Relationship Management (25%)

  • Collaborates effectively across the organization, building and maintaining strong relationships with leadership, directors, managers and staff to direct the execution of executive communication messaging and initiatives.
  • Partners with internal, external teams to develop storylines and support executive readiness to support CEO speaking engagements and communications initiatives.
  • Serve as direct point of contact for internal and external stakeholders to support in the advancement of executive communications opportunities for the CEO.

General & Administrative (25%)

  • Maintain notes and detailed records to support the development of CEO briefing materials for meetings, speaking engagements, media interviews, etc.
  • Coordinate comprehensive advance work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of speaking engagements for the CEO.
  • Manages related and other duties as assigned in support of department and business needs. Including and not limited to:
    • Coordinate CEO scheduling needs for speaking engagements in partnership with members of the Executive Office team
    • Utilize and update task management systems including Asana, Salesforce, etc. related to CEO engagements
    • Maintain contact records

Education & Related Work Experience

  • Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Years of Related Work Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in executive level writing and executive engagement management.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent project management skills; Highly organized in approach, with ability to set and manage priorities; Ability to work independently in achieving results consistently on deadline; Excellent team working skills; ability to collaborate across teams and levels; Experience in collaborating directly with C-suite executives; Understanding of how to capture and effectively reflect distinct voices within the C-suite; Advanced interpersonal skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proactive in approach with proven ability to think creatively and adapt quickly; Flexible hours as dictated by the needs of the organization for projects and meetings; Previous experience with non-profit and/or corporate communications developing communications strategies and messaging in support of organizational objectives.
