About the role...

Road Scholar is seeking a creative, thoughtful, and detail-oriented UX Designer to shape intuitive, accessible, and inspiring digital experiences for our learners. This role will focus on the strategy, design, and prototyping of user interfaces across our website and digital platforms, ensuring they meet the needs of our aging audience while supporting internal content and marketing goals.

You'll be part of a creative, collaborative team working to shape meaningful digital experiences for a unique and inspiring audience. You’ll have the opportunity to design tools and interfaces that empower lifelong learners—and help redefine how older adults engage with travel and education in a digital world.

The ideal candidate is deeply collaborative and comfortable working across teams—including with developers, content creators, and marketers. They will be responsible for translating business requirements and user insights into elegant and effective user experiences. Experience with CMS platforms and content structures is essential, as this role will design solutions that integrate seamlessly with our publishing workflows.

Road Scholar offers a remote work environment. The compensation range for this exempt level salaried position is $77,500 - $85,000 based on experience. 

In this role, you will...

  • Conceptualize and design user-centric web experiences, from wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes, in support of Road Scholar’s digital goals
  • Design and iterate on landing pages, program templates, navigation systems, and interactive components that support marketing, e-commerce, and content strategies
  • Collaborate closely with digital content creators to ensure designs are intuitive to implement and scalable within the CMS
  • Use research, user behavior, and testing to inform and validate design decisions
  • Understand the structure and constraints of Road Scholar’s CMS (Opti One) to design components that are feasible and efficient for content creators to use
  • Ensure that all designs are accessible and align with usability best practices for older adults, including visual contrast, readability, and cognitive load
  • Maintain and evolve Road Scholar’s digital design system in Figma, ensuring consistency and scalability
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and responsively across devices
  • Stay current with UX best practices, web accessibility standards (WCAG), and design trends relevant to our audience

We're seeking...

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in UX design, product design, or interaction design
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma (including component libraries and prototyping)
  • Experience designing for or within a CMS environment (experience with Opti One is a strong plus)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Strong understanding of HTML/CSS and how design decisions impact development
  • Experience designing for older adult audiences or other accessibility-focused work is preferred
  • Proven ability to communicate design rationale clearly to stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience in user testing, usability audits, or research-driven design is a plus
  • Passion for mission-driven organizations, travel, or lifelong learning is a bonus
