Location: Primarily Remote (with monthly on-site days in Hastings, MI)
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

About the Role:

As an Accounting Technician, you’ll support the daily operations of our Accounting department by assisting with financial data management, reporting accuracy, and regulatory filings. Working closely with our Accountants, you’ll help ensure timely and precise entries, reconcile information from multiple sources, and maintain compliance with statutory and managerial standards. This position also serves as a key backup and mentor to our Accounts Payable function and contributes to ongoing efforts to streamline and automate processes.

What You’ll Do:
  • Support general ledger accuracy across approximately 840 accounts by preparing, reviewing, and maintaining financial data.
  • Assist in journal entry preparation and verification to ensure accurate reporting to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements—including regulatory filings for 9 states and the NAIC.
  • Help manage reinsurance accounting, including 14 assumed and 56 ceded contracts.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and inventory (10,600+ items).
  • Provide oversight and backup to the Accounts Payable Technician, reviewing for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Participate in automation initiatives to enhance efficiency in accounting workflows.
  • Keep historical accounting records organized and accessible, meeting document retention standards.
  • Document processes for knowledge sharing and continuity.
  • Complete special projects and assignments from leadership as needed.
What You’ll Bring:
  • Associate degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • At least one year of experience in an accounting role (preferred).
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with technology and systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and self-development.
