Sustainability Intern (Part-Time)

Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid)

Hours: 20–30 hours per week

Compensation: $20/hour

Are you a recent graduate passionate about sustainability and eager to gain real-world experience in community engagement and project implementation? Brailsford & Dunlavey is seeking a Sustainability Intern to support a dynamic, high-impact initiative with local K–12 schools.

This is a temporary, part-time position expected to work 20–30 hours per week, with the potential to lead to full-time employment. The role is based in Oakland, CA, on a hybrid basis, which includes weekly in-office attendance and work-from-home opportunities.

What You’ll Do

Community Engagement

  • Lead student outreach and classroom-based activities
  • Support public-facing sustainability campaigns
  • Create engaging communication materials, including short videos, social media content, and parent communications
  • Represent the sustainability team at events and stakeholder meetings

Implementation Plan Support

  • Assist in drafting a district-wide sustainability implementation plan
  • Synthesize feedback and conduct research to integrate best practices
  • Help incorporate input from students, families, and the broader community

Administrative & Logistical Support

  • Organize project documents and support meeting logistics
  • Track stakeholder engagement and manage follow-up communications
  • Serve as an in-person support lead for school-based and community events

Who We’re Looking For

  • A recent undergraduate graduate with a degree in sustainability, environmental studies, public policy, or a related field
  • Based in the Bay Area with access to reliable transportation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in community-based work, especially in school or public-sector settings
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and openness to working with diverse communities and perspectives
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to take initiative in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
