Description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced MI Visual Inspector with a strong understanding of IIAR standards and the ability to produce or interpret technical drawings. This role plays a critical part in ensuring mechanical integrity compliance for ammonia refrigeration systems and other process equipment.


Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Extensive working knowledge and understanding of industrial ammonia refrigeration system components and processes.
  2. Ability to identify working conditions and visual defects of; system piping, pressure relief systems, safety systems, air cooling evaporators, compressors, evaporative condensers, pressure vessels, purgers and refrigeration pumps.
  3. Experience with IIAR 6-209 Appendix B equipment checklist forms.
  4. Perform 5-year MI Visual inspections in a timely manner, both on site and completion of reports. Must be able to provide a narrative description of each portion of the system as well as clear instructions for corrective actions.
  5. Experience with mobile inspection ap usage, such as Site Audit Pro or others.
  6. Ability to communicate professional and precisely with ammonia refrigeration technicians and managers, in writing and in person.
  7. Be up to date with relevant regulation and code references. Certification with RETA strongly desired.
  8. Working with a team, able to designate some responsibility, will providing help to other team members to achieve a complete inspection.
  9. Be a road warrior. Working with a team to complete several inspections consecutively will be required.
  10. Physical ability to maneuver around an ammonia system plant. Climbing ladders, bending, crawling, working from a lift, while wearing proper PPE.
  • Perform visual mechanical integrity inspections in accordance with IIAR and relevant industry standards (e.g., API, ASME).
  • Generate, review, and update mechanical and P&ID drawings related to inspected systems.
  • Document inspection findings and provide clear, actionable reports.
  • Work closely with NDT teams, engineers, and site personnel to coordinate inspection activities.
  • Ensure all inspections meet company and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel to client sites as required.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience performing MI visual inspections, preferably in the ammonia refrigeration or industrial processing industries.
  • IIAR Certification and familiarity with IIAR Bulletins and Guidelines (especially IIAR 6 and IIAR 9).
  • Proficiency in reading and producing technical drawings (AutoCAD or similar platforms preferred).
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as API 510, 570, 653, and ASME B31.5.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • NDT certifications or API visual inspection credentials are a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently and manage multiple inspection assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IIAR Certification
  • Prior experience with industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Drafting certification or coursework in technical drawing.
