Job description

THREE is a growing insurance company that sells a unique and straightforward insurance policy to small businesses – from restaurants, to electricians, to consultants – covering them against property risks (e.g. fire, theft, flood), lawsuits, and more. It was born out of and remains part of Berkshire Hathaway, one of the most respected companies in the world. At THREE, you’ll join a team of experienced insurance operators that chooses to run lean, promotes autonomy, and is charged with building a small commercial insurer that challenges the largest players in its space.

Our premium product includes all property and casualty lines – GL, Property, Workers Compensation and Commercial Auto.  The ideal candidate must be highly motivated to succeed in a start-up environment, with a strong ability to embrace the digital trends and customer desires around flexibility and rapid change. The position is responsible for supporting our sales team for underwriting, risk assessment and overall risk evaluation for a captive combined product that will be delivered to Small Business owners.

This is a partially remote role with at least 2 in person days per week required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Underwriting service responsibilities include but are not limited to:  referral review, post-bind reviews, completing endorsement requests, rewrites, cancellations
  • Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through thorough analysis of risk exposure consistent with company appetite
  • Contribute to and foster a results-oriented culture that drives business growth and a delightful customer experience
  • Willingness to support additional customer service responsibilities including, but not limited to:  billing discrepancy resolution, and reporting, answering and responding to customer inquiries, supporting cross-channel quote and purchase flows, and ensuring a delightful and positive customer experience
  • Flexibility to adapt in a constantly changing start-up environment, including changes to technology, underwriting guidelines and appetite, compliance and regulation considerations, business strategies and corporate standards.
  • Premium audit service responsibilities including written communication to customers

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong commercial property or casualty underwriting experience required.  Experience in small commercial lines covering GL, Property, Workers Compensation and Commercial Auto lines of business is preferred.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and multi-task towards an elevated customer experience.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to operate with ambiguity and escalate items as necessary
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with special attention to details
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and customers
  • Self-starter capable of learning new skills and technologies in a rapidly changing environment
  • Capability to work independently and within a team/group environment
  • Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required 
  • 3+ years of underwriting experience in Commercial Property and Casualty is required

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided.  The salary range for this job is $50,000 to 80,000 per year.  Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
