Drafting Technician

Technical Drafting and Documentation

• Create accurate, high-quality technical drawings and plans using AutoCAD 2D, including commercial roof survey plans, site plans, construction drawings, and details. 
• Translate field notes, inspection data, and consultant sketches into accurate, well-organized drawings/drawing sets. 
• Revise and update drawings based on feedback from consultants and other key project stakeholders. 
• Ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to company drafting standards and relevant codes. 
• Maintain organized documentation and version control for drawing files and records. 
• Prepare technical illustrations for reports and construction documents. 

Project Support and Delivery

• Collaborate with consultants, project managers, and project coordinators to support timely and accurate deliverables. 
• Assist other drafting technicians with drafting tasks and document preparation. 
• Support project teams by prioritizing daily drafting responsibilities to meet client-specific requirements and deadlines.
• Participate in multiple ongoing projects, managing workload effectively to meet scheduled milestones. 
• Travel to client project sites (nationwide) as needed for learning, development, and drawing support. 

Collaboration and Communication

• Communicate proactively with consultants and internal teams to clarify requirements and resolve design questions. 
• Participate in cross-departmental collaboration to meet project objectives and ensure a smooth handoff between teams. 
• Foster clear, professional communication across teams to support alignment and progress on shared deliverables. 

Standards and Process Improvement 

• Follow established drafting workflows, documentation protocols, and company CAD standards. 
• Contribute to the upkeep and organization of drawing libraries, templates, and support documents. 
• Provide input on department goals and help implement improvements to drafting efficiency and quality. 

Key Relationships 

The Drafting Technician reports directly to the Drafting Team Leader and is responsible for producing technical drawings that support the evaluation and design of commercial roofing systems. Drafting Technicians work closely and collaboratively with Consultants, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators to ensure drawings are accurate, timely, and aligned with project requirements. The Drafting Technician is a key contributor within the drafting team and supports broader coordination across departments to help meet client deliverables and internal production standards. 

Qualifications 

Required

• Relevant drafting experience using AutoCAD 2022 (or newer) in a design or construction environment. 
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; ability to produce accurate, detailed technical drawings with minimal supervision. 
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to follow and apply established drafting standards. 
• Basic understanding of construction sequencing, technical drawing conventions, and commercial roofing terminology. 
• Experience interpreting blueprints, field sketches, technical specifications, and consultant input. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint). 
• Experience working in PDF markup tools such as Bluebeam Revu, Revit or PDF X-Change. 
• Self-starter with excellent organizational and documentation skills. 
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. 

Preferred

• Familiarity with construction drawings related to commercial roofing systems and building envelopes. 
• Experience working in a consulting, engineering, architectural, or construction environment. 
• Experience working with Deltek VantagePoint or another Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
