Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create complex electrical engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects.
  • Provide design drawings, under the direction of senior staff, including but not limited to one-line and three-line diagrams, panel front elevations, AC/DC schematics, AC/DC cable schedules, and wiring diagrams.
  • Acquire knowledge of equipment, specifications, and the art and science of protective relaying and controls for substation systems of renewable power plants interconnecting to various utilities across the United States.
  • Optimize electrical protection scheme templates and tools.
  • Enhance automation in substation electrical design using Substation Design Suite, SQL, Python, Visual Basic (Excel Macros), Auto LISP or other programming languages.
  • Perform design tasks on small projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
  • Work under the direction of more senior staff.
  • Receive close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
  • Receive a thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Perform essential duties, including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Intermediate experience utilizing AutoCAD, including understanding layers, dynamic blocks, attributes, etc.
  • AutoCAD Electrical or Substation Design Suite for P&C experience is strongly preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and theories for high-voltage substation equipment is required.
  • Prior experience (internships acceptable) in power delivery, transmission, or distribution is very desirable.
  • Intermediate experience with Python, SQL, VBA, or AutoLISP programming is desirable, but not required.
  • A passion for optimization, innovation, and finding efficiencies in processes.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical with an eye for aesthetics.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Efficient time management – must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and independently, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines.
