Job description

The law offices of Marshall Dennehey, a large civil defense litigation firm, is seeking a full-time Nurse Paralegal for its Cleveland, Ohio office with Litigation / Medical Malpractice / Healthcare experience. This practice defends medical professionals and providers in all areas of health care liability, ranging from medical malpractice and credentialing and licensing issues to investigations involving governmental agencies.

  • Assist attorney in early stages of litigation regarding the initial assessment of a complaint and drafting of the initial report to the client by understanding the key medical issues alleged
  • Obtain and review medical records - identification of missing records, pre-existing conditions or inconsistencies in plaintiff's production
  • Prepare medical chronology and summary, highlighting the issues and making recommendations for further investigation, mitigating circumstances and alternative causation
  • Perform IDEX searches and coordinate other efforts to obtain information regarding the background of plaintiff's experts
  • Put together and review an expert package for attorney approval before submission to an expert
  • Medical education of attorneys and staff on case specific issues, including the preparation of exhibits and cross examination questions related to medical issues for trial, deposition, mediation or arbitration
  • Research and analysis of case issues, including medical research of facts, medical articles and expert articles
  • Communicate issues with experts and perform investigation as well as analysis of experts
  • Record and bill time for work that the clients can reasonably be expected to pay for and meet minimum billable goals.
  • Enter billable time according to established policies and procedures and maintain goals
  • Coordinate with support services and clients, opposing law Firms and courts
  • Correspond with clients and opposing law Firms as necessary

Job duties may include:

  • Research and analysis of case issues, including medical research of facts, medical articles, and expert articles.
  • Communication of issues with experts and investigation and analysis of expert qualifications and experience, including prior transcripts, testimony and articles
  • Perform additional duties as required

Job Requirements:

  • Nursing Degree
  • Minimum 3 years of Medical Malpractice experience
  • Applicants must have a Bachelor's or an Associate's degree
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program is preferred
