What we offer

The Product Design Associate will work closely with senior team members to coordinate and detail standardized modular units and pre-fabricated wall-and-floor systems using Revit. This role will support product development for SAMI’s emerging Panel and Modular businesses, collaborating with key members of the SAMI team, as well as stakeholders from Mattamy Homes Canada. This role will ensure design models stay accurate, coordinated, and production-ready as we scale our product and manufacturing capabilities. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and highly organized with prior exposure to panelization or CNC-driven production workflows.

What you’ll do

  • Optimize modular designs as well as designs for manufacturing through value engineering, balancing cost, structural, acoustic, and thermal performance.
  • Collaborate with procurement to evaluate pricing, lead times, and alternate material options. Perform trade-off analysis on alternate options and present business cases to support analysis.
  • Build and maintain Revit models for modular units and prefabricated wall and floor systems
  • Generate views, annotations, and schedules to support testing, fabrication, procurement, and engineering coordination
  • Track design decisions and model updates across product iterations
  • Coordinate with vendors to integrate product specifications and material data
  • Maintain internal libraries with dimensions, performance values, and compliance attributes
  • Address any design-related issues that arise during the manufacturing and construction processes.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, materials, and best practices to inform design decisions and ensure competitive advantage.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and manage design work by consultants and any other relevant stakeholders (i.e. structural, architectural, MEP, HVAC, etc.) as appropriate.

What you bring

  • Post-secondary education in Architectural Technology, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Sustainable Building Engineering or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience evaluating materials, value engineering, and optimizing the performance of construction products.
  • Interest in modular/prefabricated construction, with an eagerness to learn.
  • Understanding of design process and key components involved, including structural, architectural, and MEP considerations.
  • Excellent knowledge of design software (i.e. Revit, CAD, Bluebeam).
  • Strong leadership skills to manage and motivate consultants and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including project management, scheduling, report writing, and presentation production.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with panelization, or CNC-driven production workflows.
