The OPPORTUNITY:

 

Leverage your Claims experience and join our growing team as a Commercial Claims Manager. The Claims Manager is responsible for the overall management of the assigned claims team. This position is responsible for staffing, employee development and all aspects of performance management for the assigned team.  This position will focus on achieving the established best practices in the areas of service standards, file handling and claim settlements.  The Claims Manager will work to exceed established key performance indicators and bring forth recommendations for improvement. Because the success of our company is rooted in teamwork, the way we care about the people we work with and serve, this hybrid role will work in our Raleigh office a minimum of two days with the flexibility to work from home the remaining three days. 

 

Your WORK as a Claims Manager will make a difference as you:  

  • Through direct leadership recruit, select, train, mentor, develop, and manage quality and performance of staff members such that goals are met or exceeded, and staff engagement and satisfaction are high
  • Manage plans and processes in line with established departmental best practices and identify areas for improvement.
  • Achieve the specific Key Performance Indicators, striving to find better ways to improve overall service delivery and loss ratio.
  • Apply knowledge in all aspects of industry matters, including legal, medical, and pertinent trends.
  • Facilitate with direct staff the resolution of moderately complex multi-jurisdictional claims, including timely review of reserve / settlement authority and accuracy, authority for denial of claims, authority for defense counsel assignments and effective vendor management. 
  • Manage and monitor the Quality Assurance program, with action plans developed for areas of deficiency.
  • Participate with policyholders, agents, brokers, and other stakeholders in multi-jurisdictional claim file reviews as warranted.
  • Participate in industry conferences and seminars.
  • Provide input to Claims Leadership team and responsible to execute on department strategies.
  • Partner with other departments on projects and cross functional planning.

 

SKILLS to get the JOB done RIGHT:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and 5-7 years of commercial insurance Claims experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Prior construction related Property and Casualty Claims leadership a plus.
  • Proven leadership skills in a Claims operations environment. 
  • Exhibit sound judgment in taking initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, interpersonal- and problem-solving skills.
