Job description

About the Role:

Ectobox is seeking a Industry 4.0 Lead Engineer to manage technical delivery of advanced MES, IIoT, and real-time data integration solutions for global manufacturing clients. This role is ideal for developers who bring both deep technical implementation expertise and a passion for mentorship, system quality, and continuous improvement.

You will collaborate closely with solution architects, project managers, and client teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing Industry 4.0 systems. This position blends hands-on development with engineering leadership, making it ideal for someone who wants to shape the execution layer of digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

System Development & Delivery

  • Lead implementation of MES, SCADA, and data platform solutions across manufacturing sites
  • Build real-time data flows using MQTT (Sparkplug B), SQL, HighByte, and time-series historians like Canary Labs
  • Develop and maintain tag models, scripting logic, and visualization layers in platforms like Ignition
  • Troubleshoot and optimize integration performance across edge, broker, and cloud layers

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with Solutions Architects and Project Managers to ensure alignment between technical design and business objectives
  • Serve as a technical liaison across developers, architects, and client stakeholders
  • Lead debugging, performance tuning, and reliability improvements for complex MES/IIoT implementations

Mentorship & Standards Enforcement

  • Provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level developers
  • Conduct code reviews, design feedback sessions, and pair programming as needed
  • Drive adoption of clean architecture, secure design patterns, and reusable integration components

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce secure transport protocols (TLS), broker hardening, identity management, and secure edge connectivity
  • Ensure all integrations comply with internal standards and client IT/OT security policies

Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement

  • Document lessons learned, reusable code modules, and tested integration patterns
  • Maintain internal libraries, best practice guides, and delivery templates for future reuse
  • Research and adopt emerging tools, protocols, and best practices within the UNS and Industry 4.0 space

Core Technical Skills (Required)

Tool/Platform

Required Expertise

Ignition (Inductive Automation)

Advanced scripting, tag management, visualization, gateway design

Canary Labs

Time-series data historian setup, data retention, archiving, and query design

HighByte

Data modeling, source normalization, MQTT/OPC connectivity

MQTT Broker (e.g., HiveMQ, EMQX)

Topic namespace design, client configuration, TLS/ACL setup

SQL & Industrial Data Protocols

Data modeling, KPI/metric queries, integration with MES/SCADA/ERP systems

Candidate Profile

  • 3-5+ years experience in MES/IIoT/SCADA development or OT systems integration
  • Proven track record of delivering data-intensive solutions in manufacturing environments
  • Effective communicator across technical and non-technical teams
  • Skilled in code quality, documentation, and repeatable system design
  • Formal education in engineering, computer science, or automation is preferred — but we prioritize proven experience in delivering MES/IIoT solutions.
  • US-based; travel up to 30% as needed

Why Join Ectobox?

  • Work on high-impact projects for some of the world's most recognizable manufacturing brands
  • Gain deep exposure to bleeding-edge Industry 4.0 platforms and data infrastructure
  • Be part of a collaborative, supportive team that values innovation and professional growth
  • Help define delivery standards that will scale across dozens of sites and hundreds of production lines

This Role Is Not a Fit If You:

  • Have never worked in and around multiple manufacturing plants
  • Lack hands-on experience delivering MES or IIoT systems in real-world production settings
  • Primarily develop web or enterprise IT applications with no industrial or manufacturing context
  • Are unfamiliar with MQTT, tag modeling, or time-series data historians
  • Prefer narrow or repetitive tasks — this role requires initiative, curiosity, and cross-disciplinary problem solving
