Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business (SAADBO), the Athletics Business Analyst (ABA) is independently responsible for administering the financial activities of the assigned teams and/or administrative departments within Sacramento State’s Division I Intercollegiate Athletics program. The ABA is responsible for making purchasing decisions for assigned teams and/or departments with combined annual budgets from multiple sources, such as general funds, operating funds, camp funds and foundation accounts or any other athletic-related funding sources. The ABA works closely with coaches and/or managers within each assigned team and/or department to plan, execute and analyze annual operational and travel budgets from various sources. In addition, the ABA ensures the most timely and cost-effective travel and operating purchases are made for the designated areas.


FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)


Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,598.00 per month. Anticipated hiring rate is at or near the minimum of the classification salary range.


CSU Classification Salary Range: $ 4,598.00 per month - $8,318.00 per month

Pay Plan: 12 months


Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm with the occasional need to work hours outside of these to meet operational needs.

The program of Intercollegiate Athletics is organized and conducted as an integral part of the total educational program of the University. Academic excellence and athletic accomplishments go hand in hand at Sacramento State. There are three separate and unique missions in this program: to contribute to the educational objectives of the University; to provide a healthy, competitive athletic experience to individual student-athletes; to serve as a public relations vehicle within the community.


The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics offers both academic courses and an intercollegiate athletics program. Academic courses offer the opportunity for individuals to gain knowledge and understanding in a particular area of expertise related to intercollegiate athletics.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.


Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience performing business processes and financial analysis duties in an office environment
  • Experience and knowledge of budget preparation, financial management and analysis; ability to understand and analyze a variety of numerical datasets.
  • Experience and knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.


Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to apply standard principles, practices and techniques to fiscal administration.
  • Strong organizational prioritization and follow-through skills, with the ability take initiative, be detailed-oriented and coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and analyze a variety of problems, with the ability to anticipate and address problems proactively.
  • Strong communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey financial information maintaining cooperative working relationships across the organization while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and accurately analyze data using sound judgement to provide input and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a diverse environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Office), with the ability to create/update spreadsheets, maintain databases, create and utilize pivot tables, create reports, compose correspondence and related documents.
  • Ability to understand and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends and/or holidays and to be “on-call”.

Conditions of Employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in a NCAA Division I athletic department.
  • One or more years of experience making travel arrangements for Athletics teams at a college or university.
  • Understanding of the special situations and requirements that often arise in an Intercollegiate Athletics program and the ability to respond with the appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA policies and practices related to financial administration and travel of Division I Intercollegiate Athletics programs.
  • Working knowledge of Common Management Systems (CMS) and Common Financial Systems (CFS).
