What You'll Do
As a Family Peer Support Specialist at Alexander Youth Network, you will provide structured, person-centered family-driven support to families navigating the challenges of raising children with behavioral health needs. Drawing from your lived experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with emotional, behavioral, social, developmental, or substance use challenges, you will serve as a bridge between professional services and family-centered care. Your role is critical in helping families develop self-advocacy skills, navigate complex systems, and build resilience through a strength-based approach.
You will work one-on-one with caregivers of children or young adults (up to age 21) in their homes and community settings, providing mentoring, resource navigation, skills development, educational support, and advocacy development. Your authentic support will help promote self-determination and recovery while focusing on improving outcomes for youth involved in multiple systems.
This position will serve families in the following counties: Alexander, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rutherford, Union, Wilkes

Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required (Bachelor's degree preferred but not required)
Must have personal lived experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with behavioral health challenges
Must obtain Family Peer Support Specialist National Certification within 12 months of hire
Experience with multiple child-serving systems preferred
Bilingual abilities a plus
Completion of required training including: Family Partner 101, System of Care, WRAP, MI, Trauma Informed Care, CFT – 01 revised, and Family Journey Assessment Training
Must be able to serve families in the following counties: Alexander, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rutherford, Union, Wilkes
