The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for selecting appropriate packaging materials and developing efficient packaging solutions that minimize waste while ensuring product safety during transportation and storage. Additionally, the Packaging Engineer will create packaging prototypes and samples, conducting tests such as fit tests and drop tests to ensure that the packaging meets customer requirements.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams across the company, including Sales, Costing, Production, Customer Service, and other sites or branches in the U.S. and Mexico. You will be responsible for designing packaging solutions from concept through to the production phase, based on input from customers and sales teams.
For this role the Packaging Engineer will be perform the job on-site during office hours, 8:00am to 4:00pm
Objectives of this Role
Ideate, develop, and implement packaging solutions for mass production that meet customer needs and align with ProtecPac sales team requirements.
Ensure compliance of packaging designs with the capabilities (processes and equipment) of the company or branch where the finished product will be produced.
Identify, evaluate, and select the most suitable packaging materials and tools for producing effective packaging solutions.
Design with a focus on efficiency, prioritizing cost-effective use of raw materials and optimizing processes for low-cost production.
Coordinate design projects, including the creation of samples and prototypes, according to the priorities set by the sales team.
Foster a collaborative and respectful team environment through clear and effective communication.
Responsibilities
Design packaging solutions using CAD systems such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and ArtiosCAD.
Develop packaging that protects and preserves products during transportation, storage, and handling, based on customer and sales inputs.
Conduct feasibility studies to assess the suitability of packaging solutions for specific products.
Utilize data-driven design principles, including foam cushion curves, testing protocols (ISTA, ASTM, FedEx, UPS, or others), internal processes, and production site capabilities.
Provide technical support to the ProtecPac sales team during meetings as a subject matter expert.
Coordinate materials for samples or prototypes.
Prepare prototypes or mockups using a CNC cutting table.
Release specification drawings for customer approval.
Coordinate production tools and ensure they are ready for use.
Inspect first article units produced at local production sites or sister branches, ensuring they meet specification drawings.
Execute design revisions during the design or production phases, updating designs, tools, and documentation as necessary.
Release drawing specifications for mass production.
Create product structures in the ERP system (Amtech).
Ensure consistency and quality of packaging solutions across the organization.
