Our client, a global leader in scientific research and communication, is seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to join their team. In this role, you will lead the creation of data-driven visualizations and interactive storytelling pieces that highlight emerging developments in the field of chemistry. You will also play a key role in building internal data visualization capabilities by establishing processes and leading training sessions for staff.

Location: Fully Remote (Must reside and work within the continental U.S.
This is a W2 contract role (no C2C arrangements).
Candidates must currently reside and perform all work for this role within the continental United States.

Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with C&EN’s editorial and creative teams to conceptualize and build interactive, data-driven stories focused on chemistry research, trends, and breakthroughs
Design and edit graphics and visuals, including charts, maps, infographics, and interactive data tools.
Partner with writers, editors, and subject matter experts to ensure scientific accuracy and clarity in all visuals.
Refine existing visualizations to improve accuracy, readability, and accessibility.
Source, clean, and analyze datasets from scientific journals, databases, and public repositories.
Conduct training sessions on data visualization best practices, tools, and workflows for internal staff.
Contribute to developing a cohesive visual style and storytelling approach for the publication.
Ensure all visuals meet digital accessibility standards (e.g., color contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility).
Create and maintain documentation, templates, and repeatable workflows for future projects.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in modern web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Git.
Strong data analysis skills using tools such as Python, R, SQL, or equivalent.
Experience with data visualization tools/libraries such as D3.js, Datawrapper, Flourish, or QGIS.
Experience working within a CMS or component-based publishing system (Adobe AEM experience is a plus).
Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into engaging and accessible visual formats.
Knowledge of accessibility standards in digital publishing and data visualization.
Strong collaboration, communication, and editorial judgment skills.
Exceptional attention to detail.
