Job description

We are seeking an accomplished retail property leader to take full accountability for the performance of a major retail asset. This is a newly created leadership position, offering the opportunity to oversee a flagship retail centre and contribute to its ongoing growth and evolution.

The role is based in a brand-new, architect-designed Sydney CBD office, working directly with the business owners. It represents a rare chance to step into a role with genuine scope and autonomy — without the layers of corporate red tape.

The Company

Our client is a privately owned property group with a strong track record in developing and managing commercial, retail, and mixed-use assets. Their retail portfolio includes a high-performing, large-format centre in Western Sydney, with a significant pipeline of future development already in motion.

The operational team is well-established, but the business is now seeking a senior leader to unify and professionalise how the asset is run. This includes introducing structure, governance, and commercial oversight — while supporting leasing, marketing, and day-to-day operations.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the founders, the General Manager will take full responsibility for the site’s performance — financial, operational, and strategic. You’ll work closely with senior functional leads and external agents to align leasing, marketing, and centre operations under a single commercial strategy.

This is not a layered or regional role. You will be the business’s lead representative on the asset, responsible for delivering results and shaping the long-term direction of the centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all key functions related to the asset: centre operations, marketing, leasing, facilities, and compliance

  • Take full ownership of the site P&L — including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimisation

  • Oversee tenancy mix and leasing performance in partnership with internal stakeholders and external agents

  • Align site operations under a unified structure with clear reporting and governance

  • Monitor tenant performance, address risk, and maintain strong tenant relationships

  • Work with the owners to shape the medium- and long-term commercial strategy for the asset

  • Embed a high-performance culture across the broader centre team

This role is ideal for you if...

  • You’ve led significant retail assets and are ready to take full commercial ownership of a high-profile centre

  • You’re looking for a more agile, impactful environment — with direct access to decision-makers and the freedom to lead

  • You bring both structure and strategic thinking to complex environments, and are confident driving performance at all levels

This role may not suit you if...

  • You prefer highly structured or bureaucratic environments with layers of internal approvals

  • You are seeking a purely strategic or hands-off role — this is a leadership position with clear commercial and operational accountability

What success looks like

By 3 months – You’ve reviewed key systems, team structures, and operational performance. A clear governance rhythm is in place.

By 6 months – Operational costs are under control, the team is aligned, and reporting is streamlined.

By 12 months – Leasing and marketing activities are fully integrated, the asset is running as a cohesive unit, and performance has improved across key metrics.

About You

  • 15+ years’ experience in retail property, centre management, or asset leadership

  • Proven success managing large-format or outlet-style centres with full P&L responsibility

  • Strong operational and commercial acumen — able to lead across leasing, marketing, and facilities

  • Experienced in developing teams, introducing structure, and driving performance uplift

  • Comfortable engaging at owner level and navigating both day-to-day and long-term planning

What’s on Offer

  • Senior executive package and bonus

  • Brand new, purpose-built Sydney CBD office

  • Chef-prepared lunches twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

  • Collaborative and commercially focused culture — no layers, no politics

  • A genuine opportunity to lead, deliver, and shape a growing retail asset

If you’re looking for a role with real impact — we’d love to hear from you. Apply now to explore the opportunity.
