Job description

Telespazio Belgium can count on almost 40 years of experience in the field of Space Operations Service & Engineering activities.

On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled System and Software Engineer to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

What is expected from you:

As part of the Small Satellites Unit in the In-Orbit Technology Demonstration and Validation Division, the holder of the position will:

  • Provide technical support to the Unit's activities and projects in system definition, design, development and validation, as well as for equipment procurements, from early definition phases to on-ground system qualification and verification and in-orbit commissioning phases.
  • Maintain interfaces with the relevant Contractors and subsystems' responsiebles (e.g. Industry, research institutes, etc.) for the assigned
    projects, as well as with the specialised engineering support at ESA (e.g. avionics, AOCS, OBSW, PA/QA, etc.).
  • Support project and system reviews and will support the follow up of the associated development activities, contributing to the identification and resolution of the technical issues arising on in the frame of the assigned projects.
  • A range of support tasks is required to be carried out by the Contractor in system engineering and subsystem domains, including
    early throughout implementation phases of space projects, in particular for small demonstration missions and education projects. This includes validation of design, support to implementation and testing phases, generation and monitoring of mission/system level specifications.
  • Maintain interfaces with the prime contractors.
  • Participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feed-back on the achieved progress and results.
  • When supporting projects, he/she shall interface with ESA’s project teams, the prime and lower level contractors.

  • Development and application (incl. Educational) of System Engineering tools and models.
  • Provide support to technical coordination activities.

What you offer:

  • Master degree in the relevant field
  • Knowledge of System Engineering and more specifically of system behaviour and functional models and simulators incl. mission, system and subsystem (in particular AOCS) aspects.
  • Expert knowledge of S/C system and mission design, incl. system design modelling tools and Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design.
  • Knowledge of System of Systems (SoS) architecting and related tools (such as System Architect, Focal Point, etc.) and frameworks (e.g. MODAF, TOGAF).
  • Knowledge and practice in the application of ESA SE Standards (e.g. ECSS-E-10 series) and SW engineering.

Where:

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
