Emergencies
The Canadian Red Cross mobilizes its vast network of volunteers to assist when a disaster strikes, working in support of government to deliver relief to impacted communities and people. The Canadian Red Cross also contributes to international disaster responses by raising funds, as well as deploying resources and trained aid workers to support the local Red Cross.
Prevention and safety
Through first aid training and water safety programming, the Canadian Red Cross helps Canadians be better equipped to prevent and treat injuries at home and in the workplace, as well as how to be safe in and around the water.
Capacity building
The Canadian Red Cross provides support to Red Cross societies around the world to build capacity to be better able to able to respond to crises.
Community health

In this role, you will:
Responsibility 1: Writing and editing
Responsible for writing, editing, and proofing compelling and strategic copy for the website, tailored to the audiences, using plain language and following best practices for accessibility.
Tell the story of the Red Cross by conducting interviews with staff, volunteers and people who receive support from the Red Cross.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the writing style, message, and tone unique to the Canadian Red Cross and create copy that demonstrates the brand’s personality, ensures consistency and adherence to brand and content style standards, spelling, and grammar.
Deliver training and provide guidance to other writers to ensure a consistent digital writing style and voice.
Coordinate the approval and translation cycles for web content.
Contribute copy for digital campaigns as required.
Responsibility 2: Editing web content
Update webpages and create new pages based on existing templates in the Content Management System (CMS) in response to requests submitted through tickets by various internal teams, according to organizational priorities.
Follow SEO and UX best practices.
Apply back-end content optimizations (metadata, titles, tags, alt text).
Assist with training and provide ongoing assistance to other Content Management System users.
Monitor and maintain website content by identifying and correcting broken links, ensuring up-to-date information and resolving functionality issues to enhance user experience.
Apply fixes to improve overall site health.
Other Responsibilities:
Integrate volunteer resources within the scope of responsibilities, as required.
Contribute to the efforts of the Digital Communications team in emergencies, as required.
What we are looking for:
The minimum job requirements are:
Bachelor’s degree in languages, communications, marketing or related field.
Minimum 3 years communications experience with an in-depth knowledge of digital mediums and content.
Minimum 3 years of writing and editing content experience, particularly for digital channels.
Direct experience using a Content Management System (CMS) for website content updates.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
Advanced writing skills, particularly for digital channels including web copy
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, combined with sound organizational skills.
Thorough knowledge of best practices for digital content.
Keen eye for copy editing and proofreading.
Demonstrated attention to details.
Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. Must be comfortable posting content in French on the web.
Knowledge of Kentico CMS, HTML, G4 and SharePoint are considered assets.
