Job Details:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) serves as an expert clinical nurse practitioner who utilizes specialized knowledge, skills, research and competency acquired through advanced professional training to promote optimum care of patients and families within the neonatal population. This pool CNS acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, institution, and community hospitals in the area of neonatal health. The CNS assists the Resource Nurse in the coordination and evaluation of the orientation and continuing education for nursing personnel in the NICU. The CNS works with the Corporate Education Department, the NICU nurse manager and NICU assistant managers; and nursing educators from other departments to assess and meet staff educational needs. The CNS evaluates new trends in neonatal care and makes recommendations to the nurse manager and/or division chief. Is responsible for the nursing practice in a specialized care unit established for patients requiring extraordinary care on a concentrated and continuous basis. Provides nursing consultation for the care of high-risk neonates to the public and community hospitals through the perinatal outreach education program and to select hospital nurseries through contractual hospital agreements. Participates in facility assessment, contract planning, implementation, and evaluation. The pool CNS works via phone consults and the internet to deal with NICU issues upon request or as needed.
