Job description

                                          Data Segmentation Manager (Full Time-Remote)

Our Organization

CDP, a Boston-based public benefit corporation, uses the collaborative fundraising model to improve the operational efficiency and revenue generation capacity of the public media system.  CDP currently provides more than 230 NPR and PBS public media organizations (PMO’s) with outsourced marketing, data analytics, fundraising, and technology services.  These services help PMO’s raise more net income, grow their donor files faster, lower their fundraising costs, and free up development talent allowing stations to better focus on local engagement.  Since its inception, CDP has delivered more than $785 million in membership revenue for local PMO’s participating in its services and has become the most widely adopted Public Media service in the history of public broadcasting.

Just as CDP is committed to supporting public media organizations around the country, we are equally committed to supporting each of our team in their own professional development.

Position Summary

We are looking for a collaborative and mission-driven Data Segmentation Manager to lead a team of three data specialists. In this role, you’ll oversee the systems and workflows that power large-scale direct mail fundraising efforts across the MSB cooperative. Your work will directly support public media stations in building deeper connections with their audiences and communities.

Responsibilities Summary

  • Manage a team of three BDO specialists working primarily in CDP’s Snowflake data environment.
  • Manage day-to-day data segmentation and data processing for the MSB cooperative’s direct mail campaigns.
  • Oversee the development and refinement of SQL queries that support the Strategic Marketing & Fundraising Services Team’s (SMFS) objectives. Serve as the primary query development escalation point and day-to-day troubleshooting escalation point for BDO Specialists.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across Fundraising OPS and SMFS departments to advance strategic initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision:

  • Develop and communicate a long-term vision for membership marketing data segmentation.
  • Provide strategic guidance on marketing segmentation, testing approaches, and query architecture to meet the needs of MSB Co-op members and SMFS department.
  • Ensure our data production and output capabilities align with CDP's scale and sustainability ambitions.
  • Proactively identify and communicate when marketing approaches are not easily scalable and may conflict with the needs of the MSB co-op.

Team Management & Development:

  • Set clear responsibility and role expectations for each BDO Specialist.
  • Manage BDO Specialist performance, providing transparent feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Delegate team responsibilities effectively to BDO Specialists.
  • Equip the team to serve as subject matter experts for direct mail segmentation and marketing data.

Operational Excellence & Process Optimization:

  • Serve as the primary query development escalation point and day-to-day troubleshooting escalation point for BDO Specialists.
  • Prioritize short-term query projects to align deadlines and ensure work benefits BDO and MMT without disrupting day-to-day operations.
  • Manage BDO deadlines and ensure timely direct marketing data delivery.
  • Manage query updates to accommodate changes in marketing approaches, strategy, and testing.
  • Ensure coverage for all mailings to maintain data production schedules during unexpected absences.
  • Oversee station onboarding and offboarding, ensuring appropriate data points for timely delivery.
  • Support the implementation and management of corrective actions identified through retrospectives to resolve root causes of issues.
  • Actively incorporate technological advances to optimize direct mail data production processes.
  • Ensure query outputs are published to CDP's codebase and peer-reviewed.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Communication:

  • Foster positive collaboration between the marketing and BDO teams by providing strategic and tactical support and defining optimal collaboration approaches.
  • Voice BDO Team needs and garner support from other CDP Teams as needed.
  • Actively collaborate with other CDP teams requiring BDO Team support, ensuring clear expectations and consistent follow-through.
  • Support the Business Intelligence & Analytics (BIA) team by providing access to segmentation data and relevant context for their data analysis.
  • Ensure necessary marketing data (source codes, contact history, and finder file data) are maintained accurately in RevCRM.
  • Support information sharing within weekly 1:1s, Team Meetings, and scrum meetings.
