Project Overview

We’re revolutionizing the online bookkeeping, payroll, and tax advisory space through agentic AI technology.

Our platform serves small-to-mid-sized businesses with streamlined tax services, real-time bookkeeping, and payroll automation. This role focuses on building a multi-agent ecosystem that can handle both internal process optimization and external client interaction.

The Agentic AI Engineer will build agents across the platform to intelligently coordinate work between systems, stakeholders, and clients—integrating deeply with financial services tooling, knowledge systems, and APIs.

About the Role

We’re looking for a highly skilled Agentic AI Engineer to design, develop, and operationalize smart agents capable of automating and coordinating complex workflows across a bookkeeping and tax services platform.

This individual will work closely with client stakeholders, internal engineering and product teams, and non-technical users to deliver an intuitive, highly configurable, and traceable agent system that blends autonomy with control.

This is a builder role: you’ll need to work from scratch when needed, but also intelligently use and adapt pre-built models and frameworks to deliver scalable, modular systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and Deploy Agentic Systems
  Create AI agents using LangGraph and Python to manage internal operations and customer interactions. Architect workflows that coordinate between agents and systems across the platform.
   
• Design Multi-Agent Ecosystem
  Implement a network of agents with defined roles (e.g., task executor, orchestrator, client assistant) that work collaboratively to streamline bookkeeping, payroll, and tax workflows.
   
• Integrate with External APIs and Services
  Build tool interfaces for agents to interact with external financial software (e.g., payroll processors, tax databases, accounting platforms).
   
• Ensure High Configurability
  Allow non-technical users (including clients) to customize prompt instructions, adjust behavior, and customize rules for workflows without engineering intervention.
   
• Deliver High Observability and Traceability
  Build highly observable systems where every agent action, trigger, input, and output can be visualized and debugged easily—critical for compliance-heavy environments.
   
• Enable Continuous Testing & Research
  Develop workflows that are resilient to change and enable testing of prompt variations, edge cases, and behavior tuning.
   
• Produce Clear Technical Artifacts
  Build workflow diagrams, flowcharts, and documentation consumable by engineers, leadership, and non-technical business stakeholders.
   
• Collaborate Across Stakeholders
  Work cross-functionally with product teams, finance professionals, and client success leaders to align AI functionality with business outcomes.
   

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Python.
   
• Direct hands-on experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or similar agent-based/LLM frameworks.
   
• Understanding of agent orchestration, task management, and tool-based function calling.
   
• Proficient in integrating APIs and services
   
• Comfortable with AWS services and deploying agent-based systems in scalable cloud environments.
   
• Hands-on experience with Databricks for data workflows in multi-agent ecosystems.
   
• Skilled in prompt engineering and designing systems for high configurability by end users.
   
• Proven ability to produce workflow diagrams, system maps, and readable documentation for mixed audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial services, bookkeeping, or tax automation products.
   
• Familiarity with LLM observability tools, tracing frameworks, or agent evaluation pipelines.
   
• Exposure to multi-agent architectures in a production setting.
   
• Comfortable working as an individual contributor on lean teams where rapid execution and autonomy are key.

Format: Virtual discussion with our recruiter to address any initial questions and go over the job details. This is not an interview.

Take home assessment

Duration: 90-120 minutes
Format: Take home assessment used to gauge your abilities to create a mock LLM 

Interview 2

Duration: 60 minutes
Format: Live virtual interview with VP of Engineering at Tech9 centered around the take home assessment. This will be focused on technical and professional/soft skill. 

Client Round Interview

Duration: 30–60 minutes
Format: Virtual interview with the client

Total interview time investment: 4-5 hours.
