Your mission

We are looking for a Staff Full-Stack Engineer (Backend-Focused) to drive the evolution of our hybrid workplace experience platform. As a senior technical leader, you will be instrumental in shaping the architecture, setting technical direction, and ensuring the delivery of high-impact features for the core product of deskbird. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, lead by example in code and design, and mentor engineers across the stack. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on ownership, technical excellence, and delivering business impact.

This is a remote position open to candidates based in Europe.

In this role you will

Act as a technical leader in a cross-functional squad responsible for our core product, including floor plans, desk booking, and week planning. You will be driving initiatives and features across the entire stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure), with a primary focus on backend systems and architecture.
Design and develop APIs, services, and automations that power our platform used by 150,000+ users.
Drive architectural decisions, establish technical standards, and promote engineering best practices both in your squad and org-wide.
Lead or support critical initiatives such as event-driven architecture, service decomposition, performance optimisation, and future tech stack evolution.
Remain hands-on, contributing significantly to various codebases to model engineering excellence.

What you need to be successful

8+ years of professional experience in backend-heavy engineering roles, ideally with a full-stack perspective.
Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS; deep familiarity with API design and scalable backend patterns.
Proven track record leading technical direction or architecture in complex distributed systems.
Strong experience with SQL and other data stores, including designing schemas and optimising performance.
Familiarity with frontend frameworks (Angular, React, or similar) and ability to collaborate effectively on end-to-end features.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills; fluent in English.
