Mechanical Design Engineer


About our client
Established in 2012 by Design Engineers, we are a small business located in Derby which has recently been acquired by one of the founding members whose mission is to drive growth in the business. We provide a Design Consultancy service to clients throughout the UK. We are a
professional, innovative, and creative company that thrives based on the quality of work we produce. As a project-based company, our work is varied and continually changes, providing a variety of drawing tasks.

We design and detail the manufacture and installation of bespoke mechanical and structural solutions across a variety of sectors. We specialise in industrial plant design, specifically bulk materials handling and processing of powders and liquids.
Most of our designs are one-offs, and we operate in a fast-paced industry.
We design and produce detail manufacturing drawings of items such as silos, hoppers, belt conveyors, bucket elevators, mills, dryers, coolers, etc for a variety of clients. We also undertake structural design and steelwork detailing for plant structures, access, and portal frame buildings.
Furthermore, we undertake product design and development for clients. Our client base varies from major blue-chip companies to local small fabricators.

Role Purpose:
Primarily to design and detail plant layout, bespoke systems and equipment from proposal to commissioning. The role includes basic aspects of project management.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design from concept to detail.
  • Production of detailed design documentation, including 3D models, 2D sketches, 2D general arrangements, 2D detailed engineering manufacturing drawings, P&ID, schematics, material lists, process, and mechanical design calculations, suitable for design appraisal by Client, Manufacture, and Installation by 3rd parties.
  • Production of supporting documentation, user manual and mechanical certification dossiers, including quality plans, production programs, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Design and detail to ensure quality, safety, reliability, maintainability, and cost efficiency is met along with other Client expectations.
  • Work closely with a variety of disciplines, (electrical, process control, etc.) within the team and externally.
  • Ensure all contracts are completed with the required quality, contractual delivery date and are within budget.
  • Any other duties as required, that are commensurate with this level within the organisation, and deemed by Management to be within the post holder’s capability.
  • Liaise with suppliers to integrate 3rd party equipment into models.
  • Occasional Site survey.



Requirements
Key Skills & Experience:
  • Accurate, efficient, methodical, attention to detail.
  • Commercially aware and driven
  • Plant layout and materials handling equipment design experience essential, such as; Hoppers, Silos, Belt Conveyors, Bucket Elevators, Rotary equipment (mills Dryers, Coolers, Kilns).
  • Steelwork design/detail experience essential, such as; Skid Frames, Mechanical Equipment Access Platforms, Staircases, Equipment Support Structures, Portal Frame Buildings.
  • Pipework design/detail experience essential
  • 3D design software and modelling experience (SolidWorks, Tekla and AutoCAD Preferable)
  • Literate in the use of MS Office, Outlook, and Adobe Software
  • Team Player
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, able to communicate at all levels.
  • Proactive and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Creative and resourceful
