Job description

Job Title: Hardware Engineer
Location: Remote
Company: Bay Systems Consulting in support of Lockheed Martin and NASA’s GeoXO Program

About the Program:

GeoXO (Geostationary Extended Observations) is a collaborative mission led by NOAA and NASA, aiming to deploy the next generation of geostationary satellites for advanced weather, ocean, and air quality monitoring. Building upon the capabilities of the current GOES-R series, GeoXO will provide improved environmental insights and forecasting tools critical for public safety and climate research. The first launch is targeted for the early 2030s, with satellite operations extending through the 2050s. Lockheed Martin has been selected by NASA as the prime contractor for the development and construction of the GeoXO spacecraft.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and versatile Hardware Engineer to support Simulation Ground Data System (SIM GDS) development activities for the GeoXO program. In this role, you will contribute to the design, integration, debugging, and testing of complex electronics systems for spaceflight simulation environments. This is a remote position requiring strong independent work habits, technical versatility, and cross-disciplinary communication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform hardware debugging using standard lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and protocol analyzers
  • Troubleshoot electronic systems, including PCB/CCA-level diagnostics and cable assemblies
  • Develop and interpret engineering drawings, including schematics and assembly documentation
  • Support hardware/software integration efforts for real-time simulations
  • Assist in test procedure development, execution, and data analysis
  • Create and manage BOMs (Bill of Materials) and coordinate with vendors for parts, fabrication, and assembly
  • Develop software utilities and test scripts using Python, C/C++/C#, or Visual Basic
  • Participate in the full hardware development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, and maintenance

Required Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience debugging electronics using lab instrumentation
  • Proficiency in reading and generating electrical schematics
  • Experience with software development in at least one text-based language
  • Demonstrated experience in hardware/software troubleshooting and integration
  • Strong understanding of cable and harness assembly, including design and repair

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience designing and executing test procedures
  • Circuit design experience in analog, digital, FPGA, and power electronics
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as MIL-STD-1553, RS-232/422/485, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, and others
  • Experience with Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) schematic capture, PCB layout interfaces, and BOM generation
  • Proficiency with FPGA programming using VHDL or Verilog, ideally with Xilinx tools
  • Experience in Unix/Linux environments
  • Working knowledge of software configuration management tools such as Git or Subversion
  • Procurement system experience and the ability to work with external vendors
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced, remote development environment

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to work remotely on a program with national significance in environmental science and space technology. As a key contributor to the GeoXO Simulation GDS initiative, you will help enable NASA and NOAA's future capabilities in satellite data modeling and mission support.
