Description

The Product Category Manager is accountable for driving profitable growth, executing operational plans, and achieving financial targets for one or more product categories. Oversees strategic direction and financial performance of assigned categories. Leads the end-to-end assortment planning process, including business performance analysis, supplier development, and negotiation. Develops and executes operational strategies in collaboration with key merchandising and field teams to optimize item selection and pricing. Builds strong supplier relationships and negotiates favorable terms to support category goals.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS - Duties include but are not limited to:


Product Management

  • Develops and executes strategic business plans for assigned categories, aligning initiatives with both short- and long-term objectives. Ensures competitive and accurate pricing across the assortment. 
  • Leads the business review process, determining product line review candidates, identifying new assortment opportunities, and leveraging supplier partnerships to optimize category performance. 
  • Analyzes key business drivers—including historical trends, market dynamics, and consumer behavior—to support category growth and innovation. 
  • Focus on driving sales, improving gross margin, increasing inventory turns, and maximizing EBITDA. 
  • Makes strategic sourcing decisions, develops new supplier relationships, and negotiates favorable terms. Recommends pricing strategies and influences assortment parameters. 
  • Manages supplier portfolio strategy, balancing import vs. domestic, national vs. local, and branded vs. proprietary product offerings. 
  • Oversees the visual merchandising strategy across marketing channels, including catalogs, and collaborates with purchasing and operations on forecasting and supply chain setup. 
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant federal and state regulations, including import/export laws and internal environmental health and safety policies. 
  • Applies analytical thinking and professional judgment to develop solutions and drive results. Recommends and implements high-impact programs and initiatives. 
  • Leads a larger team or multiple smaller teams through subordinate managers and supervisors, fostering collaboration and accountability.

Customer Engagement

  • Participate in sales calls, engage with customers, and analyze available data to support product qualification.
  • Provide insights to Marketing on key differentiators and messaging.
  • Attend customer meetings, trade events, and conferences to drive growth and stay updated on industry trends and competitive challenges.


Trade Shows & Conferences

  • Attend events related to flexible packaging, extrusion, and marketing.
  • Support Sales & Marketing in promotional activities and exhibit presentations.
  • Present papers on new products to showcase INDEVCO’s technical capabilities.


Requirements

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in Building Products
  • Proven experience in Product and/or Category Management ideally in the building products industry. 
  • Skilled in analyzing existing product portfolios and developing strategic product and assortment plans to enhance market share, improve margins, and optimize inventory performance. 
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, working effectively with Sales, Marketing, Data Management, Finance, and other departments to ensure streamlined and cohesive customer experience. 
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach in driving product strategies by partnering closely with internal sales teams and field leadership to address customer needs and deliver impactful solutions.


SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Required to travel ~25% for plant visits, customer visits and trade shows
