Regional Engineer

Florida (Remote)

 

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineer to work through it’s South Atlantic Field Office in Hanahan, SC to serve Florida and potentially Southern Georgia. The position will be based out of Okeechobee Florida with consideration given to other areas in south/central Florida. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or Coastal Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program and must be a registered as a professional engineer in the State of Florida or another Sate. Applicant will need to obtain registration reciprocity in assigned states. Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, structures/pump station design, erosion control and construction inspection and management.  Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

Responsibilities

Regional Engineers perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects.  Supervision of engineering staff and oversight on various programs are required as well as assisting with budget development, providing training and engineering guidance and ensuring quality control of engineering services and standards. Project delivery responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and occasional construction management. A close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include occasional travel.

Specific duties include:

  1. Work with biological staff and directly with partners to prepare preliminary scoping plans and budgets to assist in pursuit of project funding.
  2. Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
  3. Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
  4. Prepare project plans, technical specifications and cost estimates.  
  5. Attend meetings and conduct field inspections, perform construction management oversight.
  6. Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications and schedules.
  7. Act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance and manage project budgets.
  8. Assist with occasional field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
