About BigRio:

BigRio is a remote-based, technology consulting firm headquartered in Boston, MA. We deliver software solutions from custom development and implementation to data analytics and machine learning/AI integrations. As a one-stop shop, we attract clients from a variety of industries due to our proven ability to deliver cutting-edge, cost-effective software solutions.

Why This Role is Exceptional

This is not your typical ML/AI engineering job! We're seeking a unique blend of in-depth expertise in machine learning, bioinformatics, cloud computing, and clinical data modeling. If you thrive at the intersection of genomics, AI innovation, and scalable architecture, this role offers a unique opportunity to build transformative solutions in clinical genetic testing.

At the frontier of biotech and technology, you'll help shape the future of personalized medicine by building intelligent systems that interpret the human genome at scale. Your work will directly contribute to improved diagnostics and better patient outcomes, making a real impact with real data.

What Makes You a Great Fit

Education

  • Master's degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working with genomic data and applied ML/AI.

Your Superpowers

  • Proven experience developing clinical bioinformatics pipelines—from variant interpretation to automated reporting.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of NGS data modeling, human genetics, and multi-omics data applications.
  • Fluency in machine learning frameworks like Hugging Face and TensorFlow, plus AI/GenAI deployment in production settings.
  • Experience building and scaling RAG-based GenAI applications (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).
  • Strong scripting abilities in Python and Bash.
  • Command of cloud-native platforms—especially Azure, including data lakehouse/warehouse services.
  • Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases and context-aware OCR technologies.
  • DevOps familiarity (CI/CD, unit testing) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the go-to expert for bioinformatics-driven ML/AI innovation in a clinical genomics environment.
  • Architect and implement next-gen platforms that derive meaningful insights from genomic, phenotypic, and clinical datasets.
  • Evaluate and fine-tune GenAI models, adapting them to real-world healthcare applications.
  • Leverage advanced data engineering and AI frameworks to support internal R&D and client-facing solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with a diverse team of geneticists, software engineers, and IT experts in a regulated diagnostics setting.

The Impact

This is a mission-driven role where your technical skills can help decode life itself. You'll be part of a tight-knit team pushing boundaries in precision medicine—applying state-of-the-art AI to data that truly matters.
