Scope of the Role

Reporting to the VP of Finance; this finance position will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of standard costing practices across our manufacturing operations.  The role is critical to driving consistency and accuracy in inventory valuation across all sites and partnering cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, IT, and Product Management.

Longer term once Standard processes are established, this position will continue to evolve into a strategic business partner to our Product Management team, delivering robust margin insights and supporting pricing and product strategy through detailed cost and profitability analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Standard Costing & Inventory Valuation
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a consistent standard cost framework across all sites and products.
    • Lead annual standard cost roll processes and periodic cost updates.
    • Analyze cost variances (PPV, material usage, labor, overhead) and partner with operations to understand root causes and drive improvements.
    • Develop an annual or recurring cost review process to report on cost variances with key business leaders.
    • Own inventory valuation accuracy and cost revaluation processes, ensuring proper accounting treatment.
    • Support internal controls around inventory and costing.
  • ERP & Systems Integration
    • Partner closely with IT during the continued rollout and optimization of IQMS to ensure accurate configuration and master data alignment.
    • Ensure standard cost structures and inventory processes are implemented consistently across all sites.
    • Contribute to system enhancements and testing related to costing and inventory functionality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Act as the primary liaison between Finance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and IT to ensure timely and accurate cost inputs.
    • Build tools and processes to standardize cost rollups, BOM reviews, and routing validations.
  • Strategic Business Partnership
    • Collaborate with Product Managers to understand product economics and provide end-to-end margin visibility.
    • Analyze and explain margin trends, highlighting product-level performance and profitability drivers.
    • Support new product development with cost modelling and scenario planning as needed by the business.
    • Develop tools and dashboards for cost and margin insights to support decision-making.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, management information systems or related field.  MBA would also be preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing finance or cost accounting, ideally in a multi-site environment.
  • Deep understanding of standard costing principles, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
  • Understanding of US GAAP strongly preferred
  • Experience working in ERP systems, IQMS/DelmiaWorks is a plus.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills, Power BI or similar tools is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, strong interpersonal skills are a must, as well as willingness to accept and task ownership of new responsibilities in a fast-growing environment.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and delivering results on-time.
  • Additional requirements include a working knowledge of MS Word, and Outlook, and the ability to multi-task with moderate supervision. Salesforce.com experience is a plus.
  • Curious mindset with a drive for process improvement and systems thinking.
