Description

Summary/Objective:

The position is responsible for the care and supervision of children ensuring that time spent with their family is maintained in compliance with a safe, healthy and positive environment.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

  1. Provide supervised visitation in accordance with instructions specifically approved by FCDSS on an authorization request.
  2. Meet with the caseworker for an orientation to the case whether in person or via phone to receive specific expectations for the visit.
  3. Be present and responsible by always operating within eyeshot and earshot of child.
  4. Ensuring that the parent is not whispering to the child or community members out of your ability to hear. All interaction will be documented.
  5. Halting inappropriate behaviors on the part of the parent such as:
    1. Making promises about the future status of the case
    2. Negatively speaking about the other parent, DSS, the court system, the police, foster parents, etc.
    3. Any other action or statement which causes the child to be fearful, to have a crisis of divided loyalties, or which impedes the child’s ability to function in a healthy and safe manner.
    4. Any appearance of drug or alcohol use.
  6. When the parent or parents engage in inappropriate behaviors and require more than one warning during visitation, the supervisor is expected to immediately terminate the visit and to report the incident to the supervisor and FCDSS within the next business day.
  7. Transport in his / her own vehicle a child or parent or combination of family members in accordance with the specific instructions provided by the FCDSS caseworker.
  8. Transportation is provided for; visitation, medical, mental health appointments, transporting the child to or from a residential facility, or any other purpose requested by the DSS caseworker and approved by the CSS Supervisor.
  9. Participate in all annual trainings.
  10. Provide Proof of auto liability insurance and certificate of valid registration.
  11. Smoking is not permitted in the vehicle of in the presence of individuals being served or while performing services for authorized individuals.
  12. Complete all required background checks:
    1. Clearance after a criminal background check
    2. Clearance through the New York State Child Abuse and Maltreatment Center Registry.
  13. Document the following information: Dates/ times of visitation, duration of visit, attendance or failure to attend visits, cancellations and rescheduling visits, concerns or problems during visits, terminated visits due to inappropriate behavior, observed concerns or troubling reactions from the child or children.
Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  3. Experience working with individuals in the foster care system a plus.
  4. Have a valid NYS driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation.
