Job description

This is a full-time position located from a remote office anywhere in the country with a requirement of up to 50% national travel in accordance with public health guidelines.

What You’ll Do

The Managing Director of Engagement is a senior leader responsible for shaping and executing a strategic vision for stakeholder engagement across the organization. This role oversees the development, implementation, continuous improvement, and codification of the organization’s engagement processes and strategies. This role directly manages Directors and is responsible for supporting their development and growth as Engagement leaders. The Managing Director translates organizational vision into actionable strategies, ensures high-quality execution of engagement initiatives, and builds strong, trust-based relationships with key partners, organizations, and stakeholders.

As a thought partner to executive leadership, the Managing Director drives strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals, manages high-impact projects, and fosters a culture of excellence, equity, and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Oversight

  • Lead Instruction Partners’ engagement work, closely coordinating with Partnership Team leaders and Marketing and Communications leaders to refine strategy, tools, materials, and processes to increase impact across the country. 
  • Lead the development and implementation of division-level goals and strategies that align with the organization's mission and long-term vision.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement across engagement, in coordination with Marketing and Communications and the Partnership teams. 
  • Lead the development, implementation, continuous improvement, and codification of processes and strategies for engagement enablement across systems like Salesforce and Hubspot to drive towards outcomes. 

Partner and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations, districts, communities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Serve as a senior representative of the organization, understanding partner needs and aligning services to meet shared goals.
  • Own a portfolio of accounts through prospecting, cultivation, stewardship, and conversion to active partners.
Team Leadership 
  • Directly manage Directors of Engagement and support leadership development across the division.
  • Create a high-performing, mission-aligned team culture through effective coaching, performance management, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Ensure team structures, workflows, and capacity are optimized to achieve impact.

Project Management

  • Oversee the successful design and execution of engagement initiatives, ensuring they are on time, on budget, and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
  • Provide senior-level decision-making and problem-solving support across complex or cross-functional projects.
  • Monitor outcomes and leverage data to inform strategic adjustments.

Strategic Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with other senior leaders to develop and advance cross-departmental strategies, especially across Marketing and Communications and the Partnership teams.
  • Support business development efforts and explore new partnerships that align with the organization's goals.
  • Represent the organization externally at national events, effectively communicating its mission, values, and impact.

Candidate Qualifications and Traits:

  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in client services, community engagement, nonprofit, or education sectors.
  • Experience in schools or school systems, supporting leaders with solving instructionally focused challenges.
  • Proven success in managing senior teams, leading complex initiatives, and building strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to evolving priorities in dynamic environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives and establish clear, sustainable systems and processes.
  • Strong capacity to manage and prioritize competing demands while maintaining strategic focus and driving results.
  • Skilled at influencing and aligning diverse internal and external stakeholders around shared goals.
  • Knowledge and proficiency using Customer Resource Management software (i.e., Salesforce).
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and strategic thinking skills.

Compensation:

The salary for this role is $166,000.00. Detailed information about the organizational compensation philosophy can be found here.
