Job description

Site Application Engineer


Purpose

The purpose of the Site Application Engineer is to provide metallurgical and mineral processing expertise to the customer during and after the deployment of GlyCat™ Technology during the commercialization process. This includes providing technical expertise in the extraction and processing of minerals to the business development efforts for prospective uptake of the GLT technologies, assuming the role of principle contact between the customer-facing team and the operations team. This position will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

Role Accountabilities

The Application Engineer reports directly to the Regional Technology Manager and is accountable for both identifying opportunities and leading the implementation of the technology. This will be done by providing any necessary technical support to deploy the technology.

 

Critical Relationships

Strong and productive relationships with:

·       The Regional Technology Manager

·       The Regional Strategic Account Manager and Team

·       The GLT Operations team

·       Mining executives and mining customers

·       Other Application Engineers

 

Key Responsibilities

·       Leadership and team support

Performance will be based on the individual’s demonstration of leadership with the customer and other team members. Performance will be assessed on the quality of customer relationships and internally with other team members.

·       Business Target Achievement

Responsible for technically supporting the achievement of regional business objectives.

·       Technology Opportunities Identification

Supports sales by evaluating the quantum of opportunity and the sales fit.

Responsible for extracting relevant technical information from customers that enables Operations to develop appropriate solutions.

·       Technology Project Implementation Input

Provides expert-level technical guidance and support to customers and internal teams to drive business outcomes.

·       Engagement Cycle Stewardship

Works closely with cross-functional teams to provide technical input to manage customers’ expectations, ensuring continuous engagement through the license and beyond.

·       Stakeholder Relationship Management  

Identifies, builds and nurtures relationships with existing and potential customers.

Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal teams and relevant stakeholders.

·       Financial Administration

Monitors expenses, ensuring expenditure is within approved budgets and Delegation of Authority (DOA).

·       Reporting and Approvals

o   Creates draft proposals for internal stakeholder approval.

o   Presents technical presentations to the Customer when required.

o   Provides approval for all technical documentation for allocated Customers.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Requirement

·       Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor and Masters level qualification in Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.

Metallurgical laboratory experience, design of test programs and data analytical skills.

Deep understanding of industrial metals recovery processes, metallurgy of metals and plant standard conditions.

Good understanding of the operational aspects and recovery process for precious and base metals.

Professional Proficiency in MS applications.

 

·       Experience:

At least 8 years of relevant post-graduate full time work experience, with a minimum of 5 years in an operational role on a precious metal/base metals mine site and preferably 3+ years in a commercial-technical support role. Must have experience of providing technical support in the sale of high-value leaching, or similar, technologies.

·       Other Requirements:

Must have the appropriate working rights in South Africa with the ability to travel internationally and regionally for business, including extended periods of on-site work (e.g. 3 weeks conducting testing at a remote mining operation). This is expected to be up to 50% of workable days per year.

Ability to work autonomously and must have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Good English oral and written communication skills.

Ability to prepare technical reports and summary presentations.
