Job Title: Technical Marketing Manager – Surface Modifiers

Job Location: The Netherlands or Belgium

What You'll Do

The Technical Marketing Manager is responsible for providing the technical expertise for the sales and marketing organization. This role is responsible for the commercial support needed to educate the sales, marketing and customer base regarding the value and solutions our products can create for our customer base. Ultimately converting new business opportunities into technical approvals and to help identify opportunities for new products/solutions via identification of unmet needs. This role is within Lubrizol’s Performance Coatings business unit and will primarily be responsible for promotion and support of our Surface Modifier platform (wax additives / dispersions) to customers, especially those within the paints, coatings, inks and packaging segments.


Your Responsibilities

  • Working with current customers technical department to identify growth opportunities and win technical approvals for new business.
  • Support Sales and Marketing with technical expertise to advise our customers and solve their problems, to develop selling tools and deliver training, to obtain technical approval of our products, and to support new product launches and entries into new markets.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the technology, formulations, applications, and performance requirements in various Performance Coatings market segments, including Paints & Coatings, Composites, Printing & Packaging.
  • Develop and manage pipeline with growth opportunities.
  • Work in collaboration with strategic and global marketing to identify growth opportunities in focus segments.
  • Build strong relationships with PCG laboratories across the European region.
  • Write technical projects to deliver unique/differentiated products.
  • Willingness to go into the lab and work on technical projects (internally and externally).
  • Support new product launches into the region.
  • Provide technical support/expertise to customers as requested.
  • Help develop value propositions and selling cases for new and existing products.
  • CRM system adherence and development.
  • Be a champion for Lubrizol values and standards, become a “Brand Ambassador”.


What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science degree (chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, biology).
  • 5+ years of technical experience in the paints and coatings industry.
  • Ability to travel 60% of the time across Europe, this is a customer facing role.
  • Ideally based close to an international airport due to travel requirements.
  • Fluent English verbal & written.
  • Must have broad commercial and technical skills & Solid technical sales/marketing skills in the paints and coatings industry is ideal.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to drive change and lead a team through change.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with sales, marketing, outside customers.


Considered a Plus

  • Additional Languages to English (French, German, Dutch).
  • Formulation experience in e.g. wood coatings, industrial paints, specialty construction coatings and/or packaging inks will be an advantage.
  • Working experience in recognized Global/Regional chemicals/coatings manufacturers within business development and project management.
