Job Description:

Beyond the Bell - A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit

We are seeking a motivated and responsible student to join our team as a Student Assistant. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment while balancing their academic commitments.

May also assist with Life Skills courses to prevent youth and young adults from beginning to use alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other drugs.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Support:

  • Assist with general office tasks, including filing, data entry, and photocopying.
  • Manage incoming calls and emails, redirecting them as necessary.
  • Work closely with the agency’s evaluator to ensure collected data is reported accurately.
  • Learn the SPF model (Strategic Prevention Framework) in order to effectively assist in planning and using data to plan and execute evidenced-based strategies.
  • Review and become familiar with the agency’s Strategic Plan, Sustainability Plan and Evaluation Plan.

Event Coordination:

  • Provide support in planning and organizing departmental events or meetings.
  • Assist in planning events and services related to substance abuse prevention for youth and senior citizens based on community needs and data analysis in a culturally competent manner.

Research Assistance:

  • Conduct research as assigned, gathering information from reliable sources.
  • Research community substance abuse trends in the communities.
  • Compile data and prepare reports for departmental use.
  • Participate in staff discussions on how to improve, change or make adaptions to services currently provided.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at Mercer University.
  • Federal Work-Study eligible.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Requirements:

  • Availability to work up to 25 hours per week during regular business hours.
  • Commitment to maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Positive and proactive attitude.

Company Overview:

  • Beyond The Bell, along with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) provides tools and evidence – based strategies to train, educate, and support youth and families in the prevention of alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco use and abuse. Alcohol is considered a drug. It is classified as a depressant, meaning it slows down vital functions, resulting in slurred speech, unsteady movement, disturbed perceptions and an inability to react quickly.
  • In addition, underage drinking by those under the age of 21 is illegal, affects the developing brain, and can have devastating health, safety and legal consequences. Underage drinking and marijuana use among 9–20-year-old have been identified in DeKalb County, Upson County and Macon/Bibb County as issues affecting our community. Marijuana is a drug as well. It is psychoactive and considered the most abused drug in the United States.

Pay Rate: $20/hour

*Must be Federal Work-Study Eligible
