This is a remote position.


Senior Environmental Planner position with NEPA Experience - Colorado, Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, Vermont, New York, North Carolina, or Maine  (Must be US Citizen)


 


BizFirst is assisting our client with the search for a senior-level professional with expertise in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and environmental policy. This role requires a highly motivated self-starter with good communication skills, clear writing, and a high degree of organization. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of the NEPA process and associated environmental procedures This will include the preparation, planning, and analysis/review of technical studies, NEPA documents, and similar reports/documents. This position often supports regional and national projects and will consult primarily on NEPA and related laws for clients in the federal government. Work may include, but is not limited to:


 


Responsibilities


 



  • Management and development of Environmental Assessments with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency efforts.

  • Assessment of the appropriate level of NEPA analysis for federally funded projects subject to different agency NEPA procedures and policies.

  • Review of decisions and documentation for categorically excluded (CATEX) projects.

  • Review of Environmental Assessments prepared by other company staff members to determine the appropriateness of the environmental analysis before submission to federal clients.

  • Stakeholder engagement and assistance to comply with the NEPA process.

  • Consultation with regulatory agencies including SHPO, THPO, FWS, USACE and NOAA.

  • Development of regulations, policies, guidance, and training for federal clients.

  • Briefings for government officials and facilitation of project meetings.

  • Public speaking engagements including training and federal conferences.

 


Qualifications


  • US Citizens – must be able to pass DOJ Security Background Check
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental studies, or related field.
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of environmental planning experience, including writing Environmental Assessments end-to-end
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience working with NEPA, and direct experience working with federal staff on environmental issues.
  • Prior experience reviewing NEPA documents prepared by others.
  • Understanding of NEPA and associated federal laws and regulations is required
  • Project management experience and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team is required.
  • The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and strong communicator with the capability to work independently with clients.
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud.

 


Preferred Qualifications


           



  • Experience working with federal agencies such as DOJ and USDA.

  • Experience developing NEPA documents for construction projects.

  • Experience working with federal grantees or applicants for federal assistance.

  • Experience working with Tribes.

  • Experience with GIS and map-making.

8-hour days; 9 to 5:30 EST with 30 min lunch.

  • Maryland – Telework; rent office space in DC; 1x every 3 months

  • Washington D.C.  – Telework; rent office space in DC; 1x every 3 months

  • Virginia – Telework; rent office space in DC; 1x every 3 months

  • Vermont (office) 2x/ week- HQ

  • New York - Telework.

  • North Carolina - Telework;

  • Maine - Telework
