Job description

Our client is seeking a Chief Public Affairs Officer (CPAO) to lead their public policy and advocacy initiatives. This executive leadership role will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that enhance the organization's reputation and influence public policy decisions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in public affairs, government relations, and stakeholder engagement, with a deep understanding of political environments and regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive public affairs strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission and business objectives.
  • Serve as the principal liaison between the organization and government entities, policymakers, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead advocacy initiatives to influence key legislative and regulatory issues pertinent to the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on public affairs priorities and messaging.
  • Monitor political developments and trends, providing timely insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage communications and messaging related to public affairs issues, ensuring clarity and consistency.
  • Oversee the public affairs team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Facilitate community engagement initiatives to strengthen relationships and enhance the organization’s presence.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of public affairs strategies and make data-driven improvements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or advocacy, with significant leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful public affairs strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of government processes, political environments, and regulatory issues.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex issues into clear recommendations.
  • Experience in crisis communications and issues management.
  • Ability to lead teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong understanding of digital communications and engagement strategies.
