Job Description

The Assistant Manager, National Special Education Teacher Team oversees assigned special education teachers, supports their training and certification, and collaborates with school leadership to ensure high-quality instruction for students. This position will support special education teachers who may serve as short term special education substitute teachers across the network of K12 supported schools and/or assist in the placement of multiple state licensed special educators across the same network of K12 supported schools. Strong instructional, organizational, and communication skills are essential. In this role, you will support a growing program on the national team and will work closely with the program Manager. Required Certificates and Licenses: Any State Teaching Certification with an endoresment in Special Education.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school and time zone. 

This role may have to work in a time zone other than the one of their residence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Supervises, motivates, supports, and directs a subset of special education teachers in short-term substitute assignments and/or those transitioning to placement in K12 supported schools
  • Participates in the development and implementation of initial new hire training and ongoing teacher training of special education teachers preparing for short-term substitute assignments and/or those preparing to transition to placement in K12 supported schools
  • Assists the Manager with appropriate department-level performance appraisals for assigned teachers, such as classroom observations
  • Functions as a point of contact for assigned teachers; assists teachers with instructional questions, licensing and recertification for their assigned licenses (anywhere from 5-10+ state licenses, as assigned to each teacher based on their specific role), and other areas as needed
  • Collaborates with school leadership where appropriate on all aspects of their need and / or support from assigned teachers
  • Organizes staff assignment data, such as instructional schedules, as well as data on related duties carried out by teachers based on school requests
  • Assists with maintenance of school assignment tracker in collaboration with the Manager to ensure financial efficiencies are in place
  • Conducts research on state licensing requirements for special education teachers in key states, for initial licensing and recertification; discerns between state requirements and provides guidance to assigned teachers as needed
  • Supports a culture and climate conducive to effective teaching and learning
  • Maintains strong computer skills to effectively operate company systems and programs

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises a subset of special education teachers
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Assists the Manager with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance

Minimum REQUIRED Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree AND
  • Current Special Education Teaching Certification AND
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Special Education Teacher
  • Ability to clear required background checks
  • School leadership experience, such program coordinator, lead teacher, or other leadership experience

  • Able to apply adult instructional methods in the training and development of staff
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making
  • Understanding of applicable sections of State Education Code and other pertinent regulations
  • Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensing as required

PREFERRED Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience supporting students and adults in the use of technology
  • Experience teaching in both online and brick-and-mortar environments

  • Special Education Teacher Certification

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level.  Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections.  Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range. 

We anticipate the salary range to be $55,814.00 - 69,767.00 - 83,720.00

Eligible employees may receive a bonus.  This salary is not guaranteed, as an individual’s compensation can vary based on several factors.  These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.
