General Summary

The Network Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining key network infrastructure services. This role ensures network reliability, scalability, and integration with internal business support systems and operational support systems. The engineer will work on network system integrations, collaborating with IT/IS team to optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement new technologies to enhance network operations. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain core network services, ensuring high availability and performance. 
  • Work closely with IT/IS and network operations team to integrate network services with different operation platforms and other enterprise systems. 
  • Configure network appliances, firewalls, and routing/switching devices to optimize performance and security. 
  • Diagnose and resolve network-related integration issues, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to ensure seamless connectivity. 
  • Ensure the network infrastructure can support business growth by implementing scalable, redundant solutions. 
  • Apply security best practices to network configurations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies. 
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and knowledge base. Provide training to other team members when needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in network engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • 5+ years of experience in network design, configuration, and maintenance. Experience in ISP environments is highly desired. 
  • Has an advanced understanding of networks and troubleshooting in a multi-vendor environment using L2/L3 protocols (L2VPN/L3VPN, OSPF, IS-IS, iBGP, eBGP and Segment Routing).
  • Understanding of modern service provider data networks and technologies including but not limited to: IPv6, EVPN,  MPLS, SR-TE, Any Cast, DHCP, DNS, and CGNAT.
  • Experience with current automation technologies such as Ansible, REST, RESTCONF, and NETCONF interfaces.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be prompt, reliable, have a sense of urgency, and quick thinking.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.

Working Conditions

  • Employee remains in the sitting position for prolonged hours. Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Working conditions may include being in an open (shared) cubicle/workspace area.
  • Occasional travel required to perform engineering walkouts, site surveys and inspections.
