Brief Overview:
The Senior Sustainability Consultant will focus on sustainability reporting and disclosure with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, advising corporations on voluntary ESG reporting and sustainability strategy. The role will also support climate risk assessments, single and double materiality assessments, and Greenhouse Gas inventory development, verification and strategic advisory. This role will include responsibilities for business development, sustainability program development and evolution, revenue generation through direct time and project team management. Business development responsibilities will include direct outreach and relationships with potential and existing clients and partners, supporting and collaborating with the sales and marketing teams, and supporting sustainability service strategy and planning.
The senior sustainability consultant will maintain a working knowledge of relevant sustainability initiatives and regulations (e.g. CA SB 253, CDP, CSRD, TFCD, etc.) and will monitor developing and new initiatives and regulations to support BVC participation in the market.
Education:
Senior Sustainability Consultant: Master’s or PhD in a STEM or sustainability-related degree and research work on environmental impact accounting. A bachelor’s degree will be considered if the candidate has demonstrated subject matter expertise and at a minimum of five (5) years of experience leading a portfolio of sustainability consulting engagements.
Qualifications:
Expert knowledge of and demonstrated experience with major environmental sustainability reporting frameworks including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP), Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). Expert knowledge of and demonstrated experience in Scope 1, 2 and 3 corporate GHG accounting.
Strong experience writing technical documents and preparing client facing slide decks, on topics such as methodology documentation, summaries of analytical insights, and process documentation or training/instructional materials.
Demonstrated experience in sustainability consulting and third-party assurance of corporate inventories.
Experience in developing climate strategy with corporate clients.
Entrepreneurial mindset, eager to learn new fields and grow with the company. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Five (5) or more years of experience in leading sustainability related consulting engagements with end-to-end responsibilities including project management, client relations, active leadership and problem solving, and proposal writing.
Demonstrated project management experience.
