Working together with teams across the business, we focus on strategic planning and analysis, market and industry outlook and forecasts, strategic competitive intelligence, as well as help the organization make decisions about future strategies by providing foundational data and analyses to support strategic planning and decision making. 

The Principal Specialist, Emerging Capabilities Markets, will join the CBEC Strategy team and be responsible for helping the organization make effective data-informed decisions about critical technology area strategies.  Our focus covers an array of emerging capabilities for Defense customers, Mission Systems product lines and internal businesses in support of the Connected Battlespace Initiative.   

What You Will Do

  • Collects research and development (R&D) market and industry intelligence to support competitive intelligence, investment planning, strategic initiatives and to identify key differentiators and opportunities and/or risks to the Emerging Capabilities strategy 

  • Provides in-depth qualitative and quantitative research, market assessments, customer assessments, and strategic competitive intelligence to support growth of the Emerging Capabilities portfolio through external R&D programs for government customers 

  • Synthesizes relevant data into information for senior business leaders, and succinctly communicate research findings in a clear manner to inform prioritized investment decisions 

  • Develops and contributes to the constant improvement of research processes, tools, templates and models, including design of related dashboards, spreadsheets and outputs, to ensure effective management of data integrity, access, record and analysis for market and business intelligence supporting Emerging Capabilities segment strategies 

  • Performs ad-hoc detailed analysis from management or executive leadership on various competitor topics to evaluate current and emerging trends and the impact to Mission Systems 

  • Adjust to shifting priorities, stringent deadlines, and last-minute requirements to accomplish tasks within non-negotiable deadlines 

  • Exercise critical thinking, creativity and innovation to frame and structure research efforts 

  • Stays abreast of R&D industry or business trends via customers, competitors, and professional organizations to inform development of advanced Capabilities for Mission Systems portfolios  

What You Will Do

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required ​

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance Must be willing and able to travel 10% of the time (domestic)

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V-LOOKUPS)

  • Experience with US Department of Defense (Army, Air Force, Navy) platforms, systems, and capabilities to include government processes for funding and procuring R&D activities

  • Experience with market research methods, databases and tools to inform senior leader decision-making using various sources of data 

  • Experience evaluating data analysis and visualization techniques to analyze data and effectively visualize it for senior leader understanding using charts, graphs, or market reports

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
