Capability Unit  

Metrea Strategic Mobility (MSM) operates a fleet of KC-135 aircraft, offering an air-to-air refueling service that seamlessly, safely, and professionally integrates into military aviation training and operations.  

 

Position Summary  

Second-in-command pilots (SICs) are pilots aboard Metrea Strategic Mobility’s KC-135 tanker aircraft.  

 

Role and Responsibilities  

  • Work well with a crew of 3 while responding to a variety of emergency and non-emergency scenarios.
  • Conduct procedurally correct and expeditious pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections, checklists, and documentation.
  • Maintain Situational Awareness (SA) and use Crew Resource Management (CRM) throughout all phases of flight. 
  • Adhere to company Flight Operation Procedures (FOPs), Ground Operation Procedures (GOPs), FAA regulations, and Safety Notices.
  • Maintain all currencies, qualifications, and advanced systems knowledge related to the MSM KC-135 tanker fleet.

 

Skills and Experience  

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree required

 

Experience:  

  • 15 hours in KC-135 Aircraft
  • 1000 total hours (with the military conversion rate of 1 military hour equal to 1.2 civilian hours)
  • KC-135 MPRS Experience
  • US Air Force Instrument/Qualification, KC-135 check-ride in the last year
  • Prefer US Air Force Instrument/Qualification, KC-135 check-ride in the previous 12 months
  • KC-135 Block 30 experience

 

Computer Skills:  

  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite Programs 

 

Certificates: 

  • ATP or Commercial Pilot Certificate with B-707 and B-720 Type Ratings
  • Instrument Rating
  • Current and qualified KC-135R Pilot 
  • Minimum of FAA Flying Class 2 Physical 
  • FCC Radiotelegraph Operators Permit 
  • Current US Passport
  • Valid Driver’s License

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a remote position with varying working hours to meet the US government customer requirements, and department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Part-time non-exempt employees may be required to work 29 hours per week with approval from the department manager. Full-time non-exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager. 

Travel 

Part-time Pilots: A minimum of 7 days flying per month.  

Full-time Pilots: A minimum of 7 days but no more than 15 days flying per month.
