This position may be filled remotely or in any of our office locations.

The Onboarding Manager oversees the strategy for onboarding all new hires into the firm’s culture, processes, and teams. The strategy will combine new hire needs with long-term success, with a focus on developing benchmark metrics and goals in alignment with the firm’s ethos code, Strategic Plan and objectives, all in conjunction with an exceptional experience for the incoming hire. Essential job functions include:

  • Design and manage a strategic approach to onboarding and orientation of new hires, customized based on needs, location, and position of incoming new hire.
  • Identify innovative ways to onboard new hires, including use of technology and other platforms.
  • Design and implement robust communication and transition plans among internal teams to ensure all aspects of the onboarding experience are considered, prepared, and transparent as needed.
  • Partner with administrative leaders to determine the appropriate onboarding sessions or internal meetings for optimal onboarding experience.
  • Focus on technical solutions, including optimization of available resources, to advance automation in internal processes.
  • Partner with Firm leadership to discuss onboarding planning for incoming attorneys.
  • Apply sophisticated analysis of onboarding efforts to create metrics and determine ROI, leading to recommended action plans.
  • Lead internal communication strategy welcoming new hires across the firm.
  • Lead an effective feedback process to understand the new hire experience and share that feedback with Firm and administrative leaders to showcase what the firm is doing well and areas for improvement, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of a best-in-class orientation experience for the annual class of fall associates.
  • Identify solutions for internal job changes resulting in orientation needs, to ensure employees are set-up for success and learn appropriate tools, resources, and software as they develop and grow in their careers.
  • Partners with internal recruiting teams to effectively create transition workflows around the new hire experience, including identification of technical solutions to utilize.
  • Collaborates with Integration team to assist as needed with lateral client onboarding related to the hire of lateral attorneys.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing Communications team to ensure effective communication for new hires through the external website and internal intranet page (HuB).
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
  • Prepare, monitor, and adhere to program and department budgets.
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the onboarding team, including hiring, training, development, and oversight of the essential job functions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve workflow efficiency, task tracking, and accountability within the onboarding function.
  • Partner with internal teams including IT, HR Technology, and others, to enhance and maintain ATS features and integrations, in addition to other workflow tools.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies, confidentiality requirements, and applicable employment law.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • 4‐year degree with major coursework in Business Management, Human Resources Management, or related field; or combination of education and commensurate work experience required
  • 5 years’ work experience with a focus on onboarding, integration or employee experience, preferably in a legal or professional services environment, required.
  • 5 years’ management experience in related field preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of new hire onboarding and experience trends and best practices.
  • Project management, report writing, and/or event planning experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word, PPT, and Excel; knowledge of all MS Office products strongly preferred.
  • Ability to become proficient in the Firm’s Document Management System.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken and ability to establish credibility, build trust, and develop positive working relationships with team members, firm leadership, lawyers, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic and complex environment, meeting deadlines and successfully managing the daily workload.
  • Proven success in creating clarity and consistency in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional judgment, flexibility, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a change agent and effectively drive new initiatives in partnership with other firm departments.
  • Ability to work after hours, as needed.
  • Ability to travel to other offices and events, as needed.

Compensation And Benefits

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

  • State of California: $94,000 - $180,000
  • State of Colorado: $87,000 - $155,000
  • State of Illinois: $85,000 - $165,000
  • State of Maryland: $91,000 - $138,000
  • State of Massachusetts: $94,000 - $180,000
  • State of Minnesota: $94,000 - $156,000
  • State of New York: $88,000 - $190,000
  • State of Washington: $91,000 - $173,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $102,000 - $186,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $122,000 - $179,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
