  • Perform annual reviews of large complex risks/accounts and present findings to underwriting leadership.

The Risk Specialist – Equipment Breakdown will assess an insurance client’s equipment breakdown and operational risk as well as other inherent hazards. These assessments will support Underwriters, Brokers, Insureds and Claims Adjustors with quantifiable risk related information and produce material loss prevention recommendations.

 How you will create impact:
  • Conduct equipment breakdown assessments of large complex risks to identify hazards/exposures that allow your underwriting partners to make risk selection, rating and pricing decisions.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical articles and bulletins to inform underwriting decisions including risk improvement recommendations to enhance our client’s risk mitigation practice.
  • Prepare detailed estimates of potential losses to repair or replace mechanical, electrical and operating systems based on market and industrial intelligence, internal data and engineering expertise and judgement.
  • Perform annual reviews of large complex risks/accounts and present to underwriting leadership.

 To join our team:
  • A minimum of 10 years of heavy industry experience, preferably in power generation (including renewable energy), manufacturing, molten material (iron, steel, etc), chemical or oil and gas.
  • Prior roles or experience related to engineering design, operations, maintenance, reliability/asset care, commissioning or risk management
  • Extensive experience with power generation rotating equipment such as turbines (gas, steam or hydraulic) and/or associated generators is desirable
  • A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, to establish relationships and convey opinions to both internal and external stakeholders a must
  • The following, although not required, are considered assets:
    • Provincial Professional Engineering license
    • Equipment breakdown insurance experience, CRM or CIP designation
    • National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessels (NBBI) In-service (IS) commission

    • Detail oriented work that requires a high degree of mental concentration for extended periods of time. 
    • A high degree of confidentiality and discretion is required.  
    • You are required to have a valid driver’s license.
    • Role requires lifting, physical exertion at a moderate level.
    • You will travel occasionally.
