Responsibilities:

                     

As a Risk Services Specialist, you will survey commercial agribusiness operations and consults with owners, managers, employees, agents and underwriting to determine the type and level of exposures present and controls needed. We'll trust you to determine customer’s ability to control the exposures by gathering information through physical surveys, program audits, loss history analysis, comparison to industry standards and customer interviews. You'll provide customers with training, mentoring, specialized technical advice and counsel to staff.  And you'll also assist underwriting with risk selection and ongoing account management.

We'll count on you to:

  • Survey commercial agribusiness properties such as buildings, industrial operations, commercial agribusiness operations and commercial vehicles to evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, and hazardous situations according to knowledge of safety standards, established underwriting guidelines and governmental regulations. Utilizes experience and technical expertise to survey large or complex operations as requested by Operations.
  • Observe business operations and management practices to determine safety issues and hazards. 
  • Analyze history of accidents and claims and inspects scenes of accidents to determine causes and to consult in development of accident prevention programs.
  • Measures insured area(s), calculates frontage, records description and amount of stock, and photographs or drafts scale drawings of properties to identify factors affecting risk acceptability and insurance premiums.   
  • Prepare timely written reports and correspondence of findings and recommendations for risk improvement.
  • Consult with insured in regard to activities and programs to control losses and improve safety. Confers with employees of insured, provides informational materials and conducts training as needed to induce compliance with safety standards, codes and regulations. 
  • Provide training, mentoring, specialized technical advice and counsel to internal staff regarding regulations, hazards and controls associated with area(s) of expertise. 
  • Maintain knowledge of the industry through association involvement. 
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, DOT) and local and national codes (NFPA) through participation in continuing education opportunities. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with emphasis in occupational/industrial safety, agricultural science, engineering or insurance; and ten or more years property/casualty risk control experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Working knowledge of insurance coverages, local state and federal regulations pertaining to safety (OSHA, DOT, NFPA). 
  • Extensive training/presentation experience required. 
  • Valid driver’s license required.  Completion of or working toward ARM, ASP, CDS, CRM, CSP, CFPS, CPCU, or similar designation.
  • Ability to travel on a frequent basis including overnight; work in a self-directed environment; perform multiple duties in a fast paced environment; quickly and professionally respond to customer inquiries; prioritize and organize assigned tasks. 
  • Possess strong customer orientation and effective interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills. 
  • Expert knowledge of insurance coverages, local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to safety (DOT, NFPA and OSHA regulations).
  • Regularly and consistently demonstrates commitment to company values and guiding principles.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
  • Ability to efficiently navigate the Internet to conduct research.
