Job Summary

Candidate will be responsible for working as an integral part of Water & Ecological Resource Services team to provide Clean Water Act permitting and compliance support to a variety of company facilities, including power generating stations, electric transmission and distribution facilities, service centers, office buildings and other AEP regulated and commercial business operations.  Candidate will exhibit journey level proficiency plus advanced knowledge that enables the specialist to serve as a leader within the organization. Clean Water Act permitting experience required. Candidate will be responsible for permitting and compliance support including, but not limited to:

- NPDES Permitting - Individual, Multi-Sector, and Stormwater Construction General Permits
- US Army Corps of Engineers permitting
- Section 401 Water Quality Certification
- Other federal, state, and local environmental permits and certifications
- Water quality standard implementation
- At-risk Species and Habitat Protection

Job Description

Work Designation – Based within AEP's service territory (preferably officing in Columbus OH, New Albany OH, Roanoke VA, Tulsa OK, or Shreveport LA), potential for remote position within service territory in these states: OH, WV, VA, KY, TN, IN, MI, OK, TX, LA, AR.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates and performs multiple and complex environmental compliance and support activities such as permit negotiation, policy development, comment packages on draft permits and regulations, and complex/advanced data analysis, facility compliance reviews, vendor compliance audits, scientific/analytical investigation.
  • Leads, facilitates and coordinates work activities of others within the group or those external to the company (e.g., consultants) as required to perform compliance work.
  • Interprets regulations and codes in the context of complex compliance situations.
  • Actively participates in development of regulations and standards, including participation in professional and business environmental regulatory organizations.
  • Coordinates and conducts training sessions.
  • Assists in conducting research studies, consistently looking for and developing opportunities and presenting new ideas and approaches.
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate corrective action when objectives are not being met.
  • Develops, reviews or prepares reports on complex technical subjects clearly, concisely and effectively, in a manner suitable for presentation to management, professional societies, regulatory bodies, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements are listed below:

Bachelor's degree (environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, or ecology or related field)

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Minimum of 6 years of environmental experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required. Travel requirements are expected 10% of the time Physical demand level is Sedentary.

1. Individuals with a Master's or Doctorate degree may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

2. Registration in recognized associations and organizations for environmental professionals is encouraged.

3. 40 hours per week with some overtime required.

4. Periodic travel required.

5. Commitment to Zero Harm and excellent team/customer service

6. Electronic mapping/GIS experience is a plus

7. Ability to navigate ambiguity, willingness to take on new assignments

Salary Ranges:

Grade 7 (Sr level) - $83,413.00-104,267.50 USD

Grade 8 (Prin level) - $94,225 - $120,000.00 USD

$85,081.00-106,352.50 USD

Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.
