Job description

Project description

The National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) in Sierra Leone has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as an Environmental Education Specialist. NPAA is implementing several projects through partnerships with other environmental NGOs/CSOs across the Protected Areas, including transboundary landscapes. The Authority is also expecting some project interventions on sustainable management of high-value conservation areas that require expertise to improve community livelihoods, enhance sustainable funding streams for protected areas, and improve ecotourism potential. However, the Authority is greatly in need of capacity strengthening for project proposal development for conservation and climate change adaptation interventions within and across protected landscapes.

The PCRV will train staff on technical issues relating to biodiversity conservation, biomonitoring, research techniques, project development, M&E framework, and other related matters and provide technical expertise in using geographic information systems (GIS) and other forest-related tools. The PCRV will also support the Authority in promoting environmental education among local communities, including nature clubs and the general population.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Sierra Leone together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
