Job Title: Accountant I - Accounts Payable
Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt
Pay Group: S35 Salary Plan
Primary Purpose: Perform accounts payable work for the district. Work involves auditing, balancing, maintaining, and posting accounting and financial transactions and records. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use initiative and independent judgement.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Accounting, Business, Administration, or a related field preferred.
One year of full-time, wage earning experience in accounting, accounting clerical, auditing, bookkeeping, statistical analysis, or technical program support.
Each year of experience in excess of the required one year may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes preferred.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and procedures.
Knowledge of automated financial information systems.
Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.
Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Skill to organize, prepare and maintain records and files.
Skill in problem-solving techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Major Responsibilities And Duties
- Review, analyze and enter invoice information into the financial system for payments.
- Research, identify, and resolve errors in the financial system voucher process.
- Contact and work with vendors concerning purchasing and invoicing issues.
- Process daily receipt of mail and distribute to appropriate staff/department.
- Maintain the Business Office inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Audit travel vouchers for compliance to all WSD travel regulations and process for payment.
- Assist employees with travel related inquiries.
- Coordinate all activities for the Windham administrative motor pool vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Prepare, compile and maintain all physical and/or computerized reports, records and other documents as required.
- Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of job duties.
- Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.
- Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.
- Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
