Client:

The client is a UK-based energy company that has historically focused on exploration and production (E&P) in Africa and is now expanding its footprint into the power generation sector. Their strategy involves acquiring and developing power assets that align with their long-term vision of providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions across the continent.

Project

The client is seeking a Francophone Technical Due Diligence Expert with extensive experience in combined cycle heavy-duty gas turbines for power generation. The project involves conducting a technical due diligence assessment of power assets in West Africa, focusing on gas-fired combined cycle power plants. This role will require evaluating plant performance, maintenance cycles, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and environmental health and safety compliance.

The consultant will work remotely but must be available for site visits. While French is the primary language for communication and stakeholder engagement, proficiency in English is required for reporting purposes. The assignment will run for 8 weeks, with an initial preliminary report due at 2 weeks.

Role

Role and Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical due diligence on combined cycle gas power plants in Côte d'Ivoire and Togo, reviewing performance, technical specifications, and documentation.
  • Prepare a summary report assessing financial model assumptions, PPA obligations, efficiency metrics, and technical risks.
  • Evaluate historical performance and maintenance records, identifying key technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Review technical documentation, including O&M agreements, engineering contracts, and operational reports.
  • Assess management structure, staffing levels, and team capacity for plant operations.
  • Analyze equipment maintenance schedules, major overhauls, and financial reserves for long-term sustainability.
  • Conduct site visits in Côte d'Ivoire and Togo, inspecting project facilities and meeting key stakeholders.
  • Present technical findings and investment risks in both written and verbal reports.
