GENERAL FUNCTION:

The primary objectives of the Field Exam group are to assess the quality of a client’s accounting and financial reporting systems, determine the adequacy of collateral coverage and provide detailed observations and recommendations regarding credit structure and risk mitigation.  Field exams concentrate on Structured Finance (Asset Based Lending) monitored and Commercial credits with borrowing base reporting, but may also include Financing, Business Banking, Special Assets and unsecured credits.  This position interacts frequently with all levels of Commercial Sales and Credit areas. This position will manage and review comprehensive on-site field exams, performed by the Bank's group of approved Field Exam vendors, of existing and prospective commercial borrowers and is accountable for identifying and quantifying areas of risk and recommending ways the bank can mitigate or limit such risks associated with outstanding or proposed credit facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage, including the selection, engagement and scheduling of vendor for on-site field exams, based on either recurring schedule or special requests from the line of business.

Obtain and review the most recent Credit Approval, Commercial Account Review Report, or Administrative Loan Status Report.
Discuss credit with Relationship Manager and Portfolio Manager to obtain his/her perspective of the credit and timing requirements, explain the outsourcing process , timing and any related fees to be paid by borrower.

Manage and escalate any issues or concerns raised by either field exam vendor or borrower during the field exam visit. Review the draft report and work papers to ensure that existing and/or potential risks are identified, supervising the outsource firm as necessary to obtain any additional information required to finalize the exam process. Determine recommendations to Sales and Credit management teams, based on findings at the Exam. Distribute all field exam reports within stated timeframes to Sales and Credit teams to obtain response on recommendations issued within the report. Escalate instances where responses are not received or are deficient in addressing risks. Assist in the preparation of field examination department management reports, including
monthly escalation reporting to Senior Sales and Credit teams on any outstanding report recommendations. Maintain a schedule detailing exams assigned to monitor the progress of Field Exams. Prepare and maintain work papers (data files) on all field exams performed for future use. Manage invoice payment process, working with Sales to ensure the proper and timely
payment of all fees associates with field exam. Assist other team members as needed to ensure all field exams are performed within necessary timeframes. If requested, assist in the training of new Field Exam team members and any team projects.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Take appropriate actions to escalate issues identified during exam, depending on the severity of the exceptions noted, to Sales, Credit and Field Exam management. Must have ability to "speak up" when identifying and communicating credit risks to all levels of Bank Management.

Interact with managers at the Outsource Partner Firms, providing appropriate and timely feedback on performance of field examiners and escalate any issues as needed.

Direct oversight of the day-to-day activities/operations of the Outsource Partner Firms including providing on-going feedback regarding process. Select and retain the services of an approved vendor to perform each Field Exam within the required time frame, ensuring adherence to Fifth Third's vendor management and Sourcing requirements.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in business related field, accounting or finance preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of commercial/ABL field exam experience, or 5 years of commercial/ABL lending experience.

Possess a strong working knowledge of the commercial credit risk and loan policies.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate upward, downward and laterally.

Ability to interact with all levels of management, including senior executives, external vendors, and commercial lending customers.

Must be able to demonstrate sound judgment and apply logical and critical thought processes when developing and recommending solutions.

Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work independently and function well within a geographically disbursed team.

Display a positive and professional business presence with all levels of management and external contacts.

Proven ability to meet deadlines under pressure, deal with difficult situations and resolve conflict.

Proficient with MS-Windows, MS-Word, MS-Excel, and other related PC applications, with the ability to apply these skills with no supervision. Possess the desire and ability to learn automated data analysis tools and techniques.

Compensation:

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the US. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
