Overview
Vitalief is a leading site solutions partner (SMO) focused on improving the value and contribution of clinical trial sites across the research and clinical trial lifecycle.  We offer Strategic and Operational Consulting services, Functional Service Provider (FSP - resourcing and outsourcing) services, and are developing integrated Technology Solutions that improve the way clinical trials are initiated and executed saving clients time and reducing costs.

We are seeking a strategic executive leader responsible for guiding the technological vision, driving advancements and innovation at the intersection of advanced AI, software development, and clinical research. This role requires a deep understanding of both cutting-edge technology and clinical research processes to develop and deploy solutions that optimize trial workflows , operational processes and resource utilization while driving client communication, collaboration, and alignment. The ideal candidate will develop an internal technology powerhouse and lead cross-functional teams, foster innovation, and ensure that all technological initiatives align with both quality standards and the company’s strategic objectives.

  • Primarily a Remote Position: Must be willing to travel on occasion (up to 20%) to client locations and industry conferences as well as events to build team culture.
Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the COO, exhibit strategic technology leadership by developing and implementing a technology roadmap that integrates AI innovation, software development, and clinical research needs.
  • Identify emerging trends in AI, machine learning, and healthcare technology to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Advise the executive team on technology investments and strategic initiatives that drive clinical research excellence.  Serve as the primary technical spokesperson for the organization, engaging with investors, partners, regulatory bodies, and customers.  Present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity and strategic alignment.
  • Lead the research, development, and implementation of AI-driven tools and software applications to transform the approach to clinical research and trials.
  • Oversee innovation initiatives from concept through deployment, ensuring rigorous validation, scalability, and compliance with clinical standards.
  • Build, mentor, and manage high-performing teams across AI, software engineering, and clinical research domains.  Cultivate an environment that promotes creativity, open communication, and rapid problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with clinical research leaders and product managers to ensure that technology solutions meet clinical trial and patient care needs. 
  • Manage risk across technology projects and ensure all AI and software solutions adhere to regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA), industry best practices, and ethical standards. 
  • Implement and enforce robust data security, privacy, and compliance measures tailored to the clinical research environment.
  • Oversee the technology budget and allocate resources efficiently to maximize impact and innovation.
  • Provide regular updates to the executive leadership team regarding project milestones, challenges, and strategic opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.  Advanced degrees with a focus on healthcare technology or clinical research are a plus.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive leadership experience in technology, with a strong focus on AI, machine learning, and software development in clinical research or healthcare environments.
  • Experience in commercialization of a software product(s).
  • Proven track record of leading high-impact, software development technology projects and cross-functional teams (including offshore development teams).
  • Deep understanding of AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and advanced analytics techniques. 
  • Extensive experience in software development, system architecture, and cloud computing technologies.
  • Familiarity with clinical research processes, data standards, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., FDA, EMA).
  • Strong executive presence, presentation skills, excellent negotiations skills, and ability to overcome obstacles and objections with confidence. 
  • Ability to influence clients to think “out-of-the-box” translating complex technical details into clear business insights and innovative solutions.
  • Exceptional team leadership experience with the ability to inspire and manage diverse technical and clinical teams including team design, role definition and development, team and culture building, coaching/mentoring, and performance management of team members.
  • Experience with agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) in regulated environments.
  • Proven success in building strong executive-level and C-suite relationships and influencing change in a variety of complex environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Strong general budget management/P&L experience.
